Zoysia and Bermuda grass will go dormant with drought, then green up when normal rainfall patterns come back. It’s called “high drought avoidance”.
St. Augustine will tend to look greener in the early stages of drought. But when it turns brown, it’s more likely it’s dead instead of dormant. I’d assume Centipede would do the same. It’s called “low drought avoidance”.

Parts of my bermuda is turning yellow while a lot is still green and seeding. If I don't get the next forecast of rain (Friday) I will have to water the yellow areas.

I can see the rain on the south horizon LOL. Not a drop here, red and purple about 2 miles away. Ridiculous

I got just over half an inch yesterday
1.25" total in the last week. Usually you can see the rain go around my house on the radar and I end up with nothing. Not happening this year.

For the first time in years here in mid-TN we have gotten steady rain since the end of May. Mowing has actually been a challenge most weeks, it's thick. Our drought was April to early May, which pissed off the poplars and otherwise didn't affect much.

First shower at my house in south Shreveport today since July 15th…3 weeks to the day. Even with my sprinkler system, the grass was getting a little crunchy in spots. This 20 minute shower is just what the doctor ordered…need another one in about a week.

We must live in the same neighborhood. Surrounded by rain, weatherman says finally some relief. 93° and relentlessly sunny at my place.

I've given up on St. Aug. It dies every summer and I don't know why. I water it, I fungicide it, and I insecticide it. I'm slowing pulling plugs of zoysia from my front yard and moving them to the back. Zoysia is thriving. (It used to be St. Aug too and it died every year when it was St. Aug)

Had to go across town to the store. About 4 miles. Drove thru rain so hard I could barely see in front of me. Get home, nothing

I feel for you. For three days there were thunderstorms just North of me and I never got a drop. It would get dark and windy, but I did not get a drop.

yeah it’s bad here too. We got no rain from those pop up showers the past couple days and none really in sight that can be counted on

I feel like my job sites get rain, but my house in BR never does. Not ideal.
Looks like a hot/dry SOB for the foreseeable future. At this point, I don't even roll up my hoses in the yard.

Same thing is forecast here. I am now having to water some of my trees to keep them alive. When all of the weeds die around the tree it is very dry. It is a dust bowl around them. I have two tall oak trees that has been hit hard by storms, cold weather and hot weather. At 5 AM this morning it was 80 degrees.

NW Arkansas has started watering restrictions due to the drought.
Edit: I am debating to keep fighting a losing battle keeping my lawn alive or let it die. I have bermuda grass. I have put a lot of money and time into my lawn.
Will my lawn recover if I give up watering?

I have empire zoysia.
I really think it prefers 4-5 lighter waterings when it’s this hot.
I tried 2-3 with longer duration and the edges near my pavers almost went dormant.

ive been watering constantly, hose ran all day yesterday and so far today. all i am doing is trying to soak beds and catch up slightly. theres no amount of water i could apply tight now that would be too much
