Both of my batteries on my 12yr old dewalt are done. I’m wanting to pick up a combo set and wondering what’s the boards favorite sets.

I’m thinking Makita, Milwaukee, Rigid, Riyobi, etc.

For a weekend warrior I think the Bosch 5 in one Flexiclick is an incredible tool. The 12v brushless motor is fine for 90% of work. I have multiple options but it is what I grab the vast majority of the time.

A review of the 18v system, note the site is a little Bosch-centric but it is an excellent tool. I still suggest the 12v for most tasks.

Pro tool reviews

Using Milwaukee. They have more tools then you can dream up using the same batteries.

For home use you really can't go wrong with Milwaukee's 12v system.

I'm already invested into Dewalts batteries. But if I was going to start over today it would be Milwaukee's 12v line.

I have the 12v Milwaukee set

Get the ones with the metal chucks. Has done everything I have needed them to do

Same. I have so many Dewalt tools that replacing them would be $1k or so.

I have seriously entertained switching it all up to Milwaukee though.

Also, if anyone hasn't tried the Dewalt gyroscope screwdriver they are missing out on one of the best tools to own. Can take care of almost anything around the house and the ergonomics of the thing are just ridiculously good.

Makita
and well satisfied. Particularly like their circular saws (have 3 - 1 corded - 2 battery) but could have gone Milwaukee and been happy.

I just started building a Makita lineup to replace my just-out-of-college Ryobi set that lasted 12 years. Batteries have come a long way since then.

I’ve gone all Makita for both my battery powered and corded tools. Didn’t do a ton of research, but reviews seem to be good.

Stick with DeWalt if you got 12 years out of them and the only thing that's wrong with them are the batteries. In fact, you can have the older battery packs rebuilt to as good or better than new. I have an old 14.4V XRP set I'll be rebuilding the battery packs on soon with an inexpensive battery tab spot welder. 95% of my cordless tools are Dewalt across the 8V/12V/20V/60V line ups and two Milwaukee M18 fuel tools. If you are just looking for around the house use then it really doesn't matter which color you choose. If you a pro then it matter depending on which brand supports your trade better. Mechanical/HVAC/plumbing are better supported by Milwaukee. General construction/concrete/carpentry you are better off with DeWalt's product line. Everyone else is kind of in-between but is plenty good for anything you could need around the house.

I would go with either Milwaukee or Ryobi. Both have tools for literally anything you can think of.

I like Ridgid for the lifetime warranty on their tools AND batteries(when they are purchased with the tool as a set). Hard to beat that.

I did the ryobi drill impact driver set mainly because I still had some of the old blue tools and the new batteries still work on the old blue tools. But don’t mix the chargers toss out all the old battery chargers.

I’m in the process of swapping over to ryobi from Milwaukee. I started considering it when I decided to buy a battery finish nailer and saw how expensive Milwaukee’s were. I then took an inventory of my battery lineup and realized that I have some tools that I want in corded versions that I currently have battery, and vice versa. Couple that with my batteries starting to go bad, and the ridiculous cost of replacement Milwaukee batteries, and the ryobi lineup started looking better and better. I have now sold all my Milwaukee tools and will replace with brand new and come out alittle ahead on the deal

I use the Dewalt 20v line. You really don't have to be stuck in a single line any longer, they have gotten pretty good at making adapters between the major players that only add an inch or so to the tools. I am probably going to pick up a couple of tools in Ryobi that I won't use often or Dewalt just doesn't make.

Makita if it is within your budget. Otherwise, get a Milwaukee when they are on sale.

I have a bunch of Ryobi stuff. I had started taking a liking to milwaukee, not owning any. I found an M12 Fuel drill, impact set for <$100 and decided to buy it. I absolutely love them, but I need 18v stuff at times.

Just can’t seem to pull the trigger on any Milwaukee M18 stuff due to cost. Ryobi 18v oscillating tool is junk, circ saw junk, recipe has been serviceable, LED light is impressive, 18g nailer is superb, drill was not up to snuff, impact driver is OK.

Wife wants a rechargeable blower, so I thought this may finally be the chance to get into M18, over Ryobi. Cost difference is about 80%. May stomach another Ryobi, yet.

I'm sure this will draw some downvotes since they aren't red or yellow but I decided to go all in with Kobalt's new 24v brushless tools over a year ago and have been extremely happy with them so far. They don't see everyday use but frequent use. I have the drill, impact driver, sawzall, jigsaw, multi oscillating tool, and light. No issues with any of them so far.

Rigid warrants their batteries.

I’ve had a rigid set for about a decade now and still have the original batteries, maybe that’s why they warrant them.

Does anyone else feel like Ridgid is dying a slow death? All of my battery-powered hand tools are Ridgid and maybe I'm wrong. Home Depot doesn't seem to market Ridgid anymore. Ridgid used to be on the end cap of the store and always front and center. Now HD pushes the hell out of Ryobi and it seems like they carry less and less of the Ridgid tools. I need to buy a few more toys (nailers, recip, etc) and I'm hesitant to put more money in Ridgid b/c I feel like they may not be pushing out new toys at the rate Ryobi and Milwaukee are doing it. I keep seeing deals on Ryobi tools and every time, I get the urge to start making a switch.

Ridgid is a Home Depot store brand. Not sure who is making them but if Ryobi is then it probably makes sense HD is pushing them. Probably in their contract.
