I thought Ryobi was made by Dewalt.
Dewalt is owned by Stanley Black and Decker. Milwaukee is owned by TTI which also licenses the Ryobi and Ridgid names for their power tools. TTI is Techtronic Industries Company Limited (TTI Group) and is a Hong Kong based company.

Ridgid is a Home Depot store brand. Not sure who is making them but if Ryobi is then it probably makes sense HD is pushing them. Probably in their contract.
Ridgid (power tools not plumbing tools), Ryobi, and Milwaukee are all made by the same company.

I was reading on the tool group on Reddit about a school student tool/workshop class wrote to Milwaukee to see if they would send some promo signs to their class for the walls. Milwaukee instead sent thousands of dollars worth of power tools instead and stocked up the whole shop. Pretty cool.

That definitely was the case in the past. It seems like the tide is shifting. I was in Home Depot less than a week ago and Milwaukee and Ryobi cordless tools had better placement in the store than Ridgid.

This is who makes the tools, not necessarily the owner of the brand. Like mentioned above, TTI only makes Ridgid power tools. Emerson owns Ridgid.

I retired last March from being a mechanic and I used a number of different brand of cordless tools. About four years ago I bought a drill driver 20v set from Porter Cable. These tools see more than casual use for certain. I now have a few other PC 20v tools. I"m sold on them because of their toughness factor. They can flat out take a beating. The power of the impact driver has me sold solid! I have 3 of them. These impact drivers have done more than I thought they were capable of doing. Studying "duty cycle" in regard to power tools is time well spent regardless of brand chosen. There are many good brands out on the market-understanding duty cycle is important to the "health" of your power tools. Good luck to all!

Milwaukee has a heated M12 jacket. Badass
DeWalt has heated gear using the 20V batteries. I have the hoodie, heat and can charge my phone if needed.

After quite a bit of research (mostly watching youtube videos where they performance test then try to destroy them) I went with Milwaukee's 18v system.
convinced it's the most badass.

You won't be disappointed. I committed to that platform with a few 12V FUEL sprinkled in. In the realm of what you were discussing, I have the 18V FUEL Surge 1/4" impact driver, honestly I use it quite a bit as a drill as well because of the hex qick change chuck.
