Long leaf Heart Pine Flooring Help

I am currently building a house and put down reclaimed long leaf heart pine floors. We are about to finish the floors and we were going to leave them natural with just a polyurethane finish but we don’t like the random yellow boards in it. We want to either put a light stain on the floors or just stain those yellow boards to blend in. The problem we are having is finding a stain that looks good and doesn’t take away from the beauty of the floors. What color stain does anyone recommend and should we stain the whole floor or just the yellow ones. The picture below will show the contrast is the yellow boards to the red. The yellow is on the far right and it’s really yellow compared to the rest and we want it to look more uniform. Thanks

We want it to look more like these 2 types of floors.

Any help or advice is appreciated. Thank you

Top pic floors are fine! Are you sure those floors in the other pics are pine? They look like an oak.
I just did dirty top antique pine and have a lot of variation like yours.

If you don’t like yellow, you may have picked the wrong floors. Pine yellows over time if left natural. Bona Traffic HD is a good clear finish and will improve the durability a bit.

Yes, they’re pine that has been stained.

We have those floors.
We used a natural color stain and added a little red to it. You could also use brown or whatever you prefer.
The stain should get the boards to blend a little better.

What red stain did you use? Did you put the red in the polyurethane or on the wood first and then polyurethane?

Brown is the way to go to blend, maybe with a touch of red in it. If you go too far with the red, the yellow boards are going to look orange. With the range of variation you have it will take a few years to blend and age.

I agree with this based off what I’ve been looking at. What brown do you recommend? That is the problem I’m having. I’m not sure which colors to go with.

Not sure of the brand of stain. But the additional red was mixed in with it.

I think you just picked wood with a wider variation in heart content (and quarter vs half sawn boards) than in the last 2 pictures. Please don’t stain it!

I realize it’s personal preference but that first pic looks fantastic. People would kill to have that
you chose a floor with variable color palette. I would not stain those boards

Why not take a piece of leftover yellow board to a paint store and let them put multiple stain samples? They will gladly open some cans and put a sample for free.

If you stain that floor you’re messing up. That look is why you get heart pine flooring. If you don’t like it, choose another type flooring.

Try a finish like Bona. It won’t yellow the finish as much as the oil based poly does.

Top pic looks great. I love the variability and natural interest...isn't that why you picked a reclaimed heart pine flooring???
Bona Traffic Naturale (matte finish) or Bona Traffic HD (satin) are all you need.

you can tint the finish but use water base tint trans tint, you dont find this at retail stores. oil polly will amber over time, water base will not plus if you use rugs the fade in the poly will show diff under the rugs. the oil base polly if you ever need a repair you cant get it to match.

Man why on earth would you want to do anything different? The first picture looks great.
