Has anyone ever solved the problem of hard water stains on glass shower doors?

Nothing I’ve tried completely works. All the chemicals all the social media and AI vinegar baking soda or lime juice and 0000 steel wool hacks.
Nothing gets it clear . There’s always that slight hard water stain left.
Do i just have to drop $1500 on new glass doors or can they be cleaned?

Water is acidic and it etches the glass. You have to effectively sand it and buff it. Best of luck.
Just replaced my door yesterday and my new frameless has an etch proof coating baked into the glass. Bit of rainx tonight and a squeegee post bath should keep it nice and clear for a while.

Yes, I have a whole home water softener.

The stiff from suds factory works well. Key it you have to do it a couple times and squeegee after you finish up

So just get etched glass. I have a walk in shower and I just have a glass partition and it has a pattern. Don’t think I’ve ever cleaned it in 7 years. Maybe it has a coating.

Knowing what I know now I would have not gotten a clear glass for shower doors.
If I have to replace it will definitely be etched or clouded glass.
Something had changed in the water in BR in the last 10 years. I’ve never had this problem before. Even if I let the water from my yard sprinklers dry in my car windows it bakes in and won’t come off. Never had that problem before.

That’s right, what he is seeing is probable not buildup of minerals due to hard water at all. More likely, is thst the glass is etched. I tried rain-x and it didn’t last a week.
Conditions inside of a shower are harsh as hell, apparently.

CLR on a magic eraser works pretty well. It will take a some time but it will remove the hard water stains. I have also stuck paper towels soaked in CLR onto the shower door and let it sit on there for several minutes and that seemed to make it a little easier.

CLR will not work in Baton Rouge. Makes a dent, but that's all. Calcium and lime are not an issue in our water. Silicates are.
If you're patient, you can wear off the stains with Diamond Magic on 0000 steel wool. Order from ABC window cleaning supply.

There is a product called Quick-Glo, sold by a Louisiana company. Sadly it seems to have gone out of business but I did find it still for sale from other sources.
If you find it buy the course and fine. I had a glass shower door that was seemingly ruined. The product worked perfectly.

My wife scrubbed the glass with barkeepers and a Walmart scrubbing buddy. Took about 1 hour and then thoroughly rinsed off. Looks completely clear and newly installed. Done 1 year ago. Now we have a window squeegee in the shower we use to remove any standing water on the glass after each shower. Still looks super clear after 1 year. We are in the Woodlands

I agree but I would just get a cheap shower curtain and throw it away when it got too dirty.

You can actually buy a powder on amazon that you mix with water and buff glass with it. I had a window on my deck that I used it on. I actually used my car detailer for it...It worked.
Cerium Oxide...various grits. It's about the same as buffing out a car.

This won't help you now, but you're going to hate how simple prevention is. I've done this for nearly 2 decades in relatively hard water in Houston/San Antonio.
Spray the inside of your shower doors with Rain-X (use the old yellow bottle, the "ceramic" bronze looking bottle performed so bad on my car mirrors I left a nearly full bottle at the gas station island), and use a squeegee after a shower. Every 2-3 months, you'll need soap scum remover or similar to get rid of spots you consistently miss with the squeegee, but then you just re-apply the Rain-X.

I went through this for years.
What worked was a black bristle attachment for a drill.
I believe the black one is firmer and cuts through better.
Along with barkeepers friend paste.
Now crystal clear.
I'm not sure if it helped but I sprayed vinegar and then placed cling rap on top so it wouldn't dry out and help break it down.
Left it on about an hour.

Glass stove top cleaner is the best thing I've found to work. Cerama Bryte is what I use. Knocks it out pretty quick.
