I have two…

hori hori knife
the best tool for both digging up small transplants and for planting seeded sprouts. It makes a quick clean narrow hole to both capture root when digging and set roots when planting. Plus it’s indestructible and would make a fine weapon when the zombies come

Hay fork
nothing better for picking up piles of garden waste, installing mulch and pine straw, and loosening soil without turning (you shouldn’t be turning). A long reach hay fork does a lot of work without a great deal of effort

I got a garden pickaxe from Lowe's for about $30, it's been insanely good for installing shrubbery & trees in my GA red clay yard. You have to get the shovel out eventually once the hole is deep, but the pickaxe busts up the surface & chops through all the roots that normally slow me down.

I'd say it's tripled the amount of digging I can get done, maybe more

Not a specific tool, but the Fiskar brand is great in that I had a part break and they sent a no questions asked replacement. I have their lopers and pruners.

Cement Mixer

Using one makes compost mixing so easy. Small batches, but you can make a bunch of them over the summer when it gets really hot. Just throw all the stuff in there, face toward the south, tumble as often as you like. Empty into wheelbarrow when done.

Most useful: Felco pruners.

Favorite: Kershaw Camp 10. Not quite a machete and not quite a kukri. All the weight is in the top of the blade and it just demolishes things. My favorite use for it is whacking the top off of a coconut.

After dealing with cheap hoses and shitty hose reels through ny childhood, I really like my $50 heavy duty hoses and the nice hose winder that actually works. Not sure the brand.

My favorite is probably a wheelbarrow but that is boring so I'll submit this:

Found my first at walmart on clearance for a few dollars. Over the years I've bought 2 more just to keep in various places. Keep the hook sharp with chainsaw file. Great for chopping vines.

I don't understand the hori hori thing? Do you use it for other things besides weeding?

weeding, planting, digging small plants up, zombies. It’s a multitasker

I just used it to dig up and plant a dozen wildflower seedlings, four maypop sprouts and some wild petunias

I am a 70 year old woman. I have wrecked my back trying to keep up an acre of lawn and gardens and flower beds. I try to work smarter, not harder now. I had a large compost tumbler years back, but when it got full, I could hardly turn it anymore.

That cement mixer has been my best friend for years. I coated the inside of the barrel with fiberglass to make it last longer, and painted the outside with black paint to make the sun heat it up more. I make compost year round.

I have four large enclosures like 81tiger for my vegetable gardens, mushroom house, and all the blueberry bushes. And two smaller enclosures for strawberries. Sick of fighting varmints.

Cyclone Rake. I have about 1.5 acres of yard to mow with about 10 oaks and 6 pines. In the fall, I wait for all the leaves to fall, hook up the cyclone rake and pick up all the leaves. The mower chops up the leaves and then they go through the impeller in the leaf vacuum. I get chopped up oak leaves and pine needles and use it as a mulch in all of the flower beds around my yard.

I much prefer a pick mattock to a pickaxe for digging.

Like a hori hori which I have and use, but like this even better. Gets more use than any garden tool I have.
