I have an app to control both my A/C units at home. This morning, there in the app there is a button that says Rebates Available.

Entergy will give you money if you let them control your thermostats.

How it works
During a handful of peak-demand events each year, your smart thermostat will automatically make small temperature adjustments to increase the reliability of electrical service. As a participant, you can always manually adjust your thermostat to your desired comfort level. These events will last no longer than four hours and will not occur on weekends or holidays.

Entergy EasyCool

Has anyone done this?

No way.

Give an inch and they will eventually take a mile.

No from the get go.

Just get a spare thermostat hooked up to nothing but power/Internet and let them live out their fantasy of control.

You don't think you can stop it at any time if you don't like what's going on?

Colorado utility company locks 22,000 thermostats in 90 degree weather due to 'energy emergency'

quote:

Tony Talarico, an Xcel Energy customer in Arvada, Colorado, told KMGH-TV that he attempted to turn up the air conditioning as temperatures creeped into the 90s on Tuesday but was greeted with a message from this thermostat declaring an "energy emergency" and prevented from turning the dial.

"Normally, when we see a message like that, we're able to override it," Talarico said. "In this case, we weren't. So, our thermostat was locked in at 78 or 79."

yeah...

Exactly why I don't have a "smart" thermostat. It's a simplistic view of "I pay the bill so I'll control my thermostat".

If you can manually change it back, I don’t see anything wrong with it. If you can withdraw from the program any time you want, I’d say go for it. Let us know how it works!

What I can't understand on my Honeywell resido is that I can't actually get rid of it. I've declined out of it but it's still there underneath my two different units good I paid for it I should be able to say no and it go away.

Have you lost your mind?
NEVER and I mean never give up control of something as critical as your air-conditioner.
