Upside is you’ll have fresh flooring in your box stands.

Dude, that price is too high. Believe me, I have no carpentry skills and pulled up my own bedroom carpet. Not difficult at all, loaded up the back of my SUV and was able to find a dumpster a few blocks away to off load it.

Yeah, that is very high. Rip the carpet down th middle with a razor knife and pry the tack strips up with a flat-bladed shovel. You’ll be tired when done, but you will save $1800.

if I offered you 1800 bucks to do it in someone else’s house would you say yes?
Posted on 8/14/25 at 9:19 pm to LSUballs
Yes, that is ridiculous. You need a crowbar and a mallet to get the tack strips off and then just muscle up the carpet and haul to the front yard. Call the local county debris pickup to schedule a day

Did you call a carpet/ flooring company? They usually have subs that put their flooring down they sell, I’d think a carpet guy would do this for considerably less but I have no idea.
It’s more work than people are putting on, but still certainly less than a full day for 2 guys so $900/ day is absurd for that sort of labor.

I can do it for $900 if I leave it there. if I need to haul it off $1100

It’s a fair price if you’re lazy, or you can make more than $1,800 in a couple of hours.

I promise you can find some neighborhood teens wanting to make some money that will do it of $300 total.
You pay $300, you get $300 worth of labor.

Yikes. I just pulled carpet out of a standard bedroom and was quoted $600 for materials and labor to replace.

Is your furniture anchored to the floor and does that person that gave you the quote work with his wife? Price might start to make sense.

No it's just regular ole bedroom furniture. This is on a lake where houses /camps fetch a lot of money, so you kinda expect to pay a little more than normal for services. But I laughed at his text asking for $1,800 to do this little job. I just made this thread to confirm that I wasn't crazy.

That's definitely one of those "eh dont really want to mess with that so I'll quote it high as shite to either turn them away or make really good".
I had some tile work done in a bathroom a few years ago. They quoted $300 to pull and reset the toilet if that was something that needed to be done. Same scenario.

I agree. But he's probably used to quoting whatever he wants around there and having rich old people pay it. He grossly misread this customer.

This can take maybe 2 hours max if you have to move furniture. That quote is the "I don't want to do this job, but if i have to do it, pay me this much" quote.
We did this to two rooms in our home with similar dimensions and I didn't think about hiring someone to do it. We replaced baseboards and flooring from carpet to engineered hardwood and we cut up the carpet and other pieces, tossing them into a business complex dumpster.

frick that ripping carpet out is so easy. Do it yourself or pay no more than 5-600$

Yall could just dump the debris on the side of a road somewhere too. Either way, its someone else's expense to get rid of it.

JFC
Hire a couple young family members and supervise and haul it to the dump.
That is ridiculous for such easy and quick work.
All you need is a razor, flat bar, and a hammer, and a truck bed.

Do not p[ay that.....I just had my two upstairs bedrooms done, demo the carpet, and install new wood floors, install new vanities, sheet rock repair and paint, including the new plumbing....3800$
PS: they had the carpet in both rooms and tackboard done in 60 minutes.
