Air Conditioning temperature settings??

When the temperature is in the high 90° with the high humidity what do you keep your thermostat on while at work?
I put it at 71°, while at work. By the time I get home around 6pm the unit is running none stop to keep the temp at 70°-71°. Thinking I may need to try and go up a few degrees and try and acclimate to a higher temp to put less stress on my unit. Thoughts or suggestions??
I can’t see setting it at 78°, that’s too hot for my family.

My thermostat stays on 72 at all times. Don’t touch my darn thermostat.

We keep ours at 78, but we spend the majority of our summer time outside because the wife (no pics) and I are both teachers. 78 feels downright nippy when you come back inside after sweating your arse off for 4 hours.
We do drop it to 72 if we know we're going to have company, and everyday at around 8pm so it'll be cooler for sleeping by 9 or so.

I've mentioned it a couple times, but get yourself a good dehumidifier. Run it regularly. 1. It is more efficient to cool drier and and 2. It will feel cooler in your home.

Wow, never thought of that but it makes perfect sense. Been looking at a few online. Where do you put it and how often do you run it? This is something I will definitely look into. Thank you.

If your HVAC is properly sized and operating properly with long run times it should maintain a comfortable relative humidity of near 50% which is the HVAC design criteria.
If you are not maintaining a comfortable level of indoor humidity in summer with a properly sized and properly operating HVAC you have other home air infiltration issues you need to look into.

78 during the day and 74 at night.

Thermostat doesn't change all year. 68 at night, 70 during the day. 63 to make the heat kick in, which I protest but I was outvoted. But I just open the windows when it's below 50.

74 F set point and RH stays around 55%. Ours is a 2 stage unit and rarely does the second stage come on. With a single stage running it runs longer which lowers humidity.

if someone is having a humidity problem during this much heat then they either have a massively oversized system or a leaky-arse house. Most A/Cs are running almost non-stop right now. Dehumidifiers are great for the spring when its not warm enough to really get the ac going but its also humid in the house.
But i know you probably know this, craw

We have crazy work schedules here. Wife works at night every other week and sleeps during the day. I work during the day so basically for 3 weeks, there is always someone asleep at our house 24 hours a day.
We keep it on 74 here and it is perfect. I could take 75 but that is not a battle that I will have

Mine stays on 75 but we have ceiling fans on every room and our unit is properly sized so humidity stays around 40% and is super comfy.

Yep - why whole house dehumidifiers are more common in humid areas of more northerly latitudes where they have long springs & fall, where air temperatures are comfortable enough to not run the ACs or ACs runtimes are short but humidity is high. In the Deep South seems like our HVAC have long run times 8-10 months a year thereby reducing the need for whole house dehumidifiers. They really aren’t that common in the Deep South but are becoming more popular. I’ve considered installing one, and done the needed homework.
Most HVAC experts state that the majority of home comfort issues are more commonly associated with over-sized HVACs (tonnage) & under-sized ductwork, so it stands to reason that many need to maintain cooler temperatures in their house to get the long-run HVAC times needed to decrease house humidity to levels that provides better overall comfort.
But to answer the OPs original question though, for me 74 F daytime, 73 F nightime (sleeping) is my optimal comfort zone, but my house’s relative humidity (RH) is almost always between 40 and 50%, it might creep up to 55% RH for brief periods in spring & fall b/c of the short HVAC run times. If it exceeds 55% RH I physically notice it-feel it.

76 daytime and 72 night time
I had new windows installed and had fiberglass insulation removed from attic and had spray foam put in place of the 'pink stuff" Wow! What an improvement!

Few questions did the same contractor do both jobs (remove the old insulation) and spray the new foam? Did you have the spray in fiberglass that settles in place? Do you recall what you paid? Square Foot?
