No one has mentioned that they shave you.
What the frick did they shave off of you? You're talking about hair, I assume.
I've been working in hospitals for 22 years and have prepped I don't know how many people for colonoscopies and nobody ever got shaved. Obviously I don't deal with people doing this outpatient, and I have never worked in any of the gulf states or the southern US states but that sounds odd.
Now, if you're so hairy the nurses have to shave hair off of your IV site so they can get the transparent dressing to stick to you, or they have to trim off chest hair for similar reasons to get the cardiac leads to stick to your skin, I can see that happening because that's just something that has to be done. Nobody is getting their butthole shaved for a colonoscopy.
If you did...you either got abused or you got an extra special service that you needed and you should thank them. After all, if they need to shave your butthole to clear a path for the scope to go in, one would have to wonder how do "things" come out of your bee-hole without having the weeds whacked down, so to speak?

That nap was everything everyone said it would be. The guy said it would have an odd smell and then I was out. Woke up and my wife was in the room, doc came in and said everything was perfect and I was cleared to go. The prep was the worst part, I did the pills and while I’m assuming they’re easier than the drink, being afraid to go to sleep last night was the worst. I wish I would have counted the amount of times I went to the crapper. I would say it was at least 20+.
Glad it’s over, laid in bed the rest of the day and enjoyed a day off work.

That's great news, don't you feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders now?
Propofol is a funny drug, as an ICU nurse, I love it. Mother's Milk we call it, give the baby a sip of Mother's Milk and watch them drift off to LaLa land. (Well, if it works, sometimes it does not, but unlike Sex Panther, propofol is very effective) Like I said, I only deal with this from the inpatient side, but my parent's have both had colonoscopies done and they've done the prep you did (pills and about 20 ounces of fluid maybe, and then water of course).
Something about being in the hospital, they always give us that damn JUG! Pineapple flavored my arse. Bowel prep frustrates the hell out of me as a nurse, it makes no damn sense to me, but I'm glad you are through it.
I am glad to hear that the jug is not how everyone has to do this now, but it's still a challenging process for most people. It's worth it though.

It’s funny, I never even thought of colon cancer until the day before the procedure. Wasn’t even on my radar.
Glad it’s over and yes, it’s a weight lifted off my shoulders.

The other reply to this was spot on. There is no cost to it and it could save your life, so there is no need to push it off any further. Get it scheduled and go do it. The pills are large horse pills, you take 3 with 8 oz of water and then do it again every 15 minutes for an hour. At the end, you drink 16 oz of water and wait for the fun to begin. Mine was at 9am so I fasted on Monday (you are allowed to eat jello, broth, popsicles) which wasn't that bad and then can't have anything to eat/drink 6 hours before the procedure. You get into the clinic, they put the IV in, wheel you into the room and once you smell the propofol, you're out. Wake up in the room, feel great and hopefully the doctor comes in and says you're all clear. Then you go eat and relax the rest of the day.
The only thing I wish I did different was schedule the procedure for tomorrow (Thursday) instead of Tuesday because I could have laid in bed and watched the PGA Championship.

This. A friend was just diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer the week before his 45th birthday.
Don't put it off. A day of discomfort is worth being there for you family.

ea I thought about food afterwards. Gonna stick to something easy to not wreck an empty stomach. Probably just eggs and diced ham.
My stupid self craved Taco Bell after. It made me sick. Don't do Taco Bell probably..

Damn, the last thing I wanted to do after the procedure was to eat something that would put me back on the toilet. I was ok taking a day or 2 off taking a shite!

Last summer I kept having problems with constipation. I tried different diets, upped my fiber intake and started taking probiotics but nothing worked. I visited a gastroenterologist and told them my issues and they were wary of doing a colonoscopy on me because I was only 42 at the time but finally they scheduled me after CT scans failed to show anything.
Sure enough my worse fears came true, they found a tumor in my lower rectum and I was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer. I always heard of other people having cancer but it never once crossed my mind that it could be me one day. There was virtually no one in my family that had ever had cancer to my knowledge.
Long story short, I was found to have a genetic mutation that made me more susceptible to certain cancers. Luckily for me, a new treatment called immunotherapy was shown to be highly successful for people with the same mutation as me.
After 6 months of treatment I was able to ring the bell 3 weeks ago and I’m officially cancer free and was even able to avoid having surgery to remove any remaining tumors.
I’m now a huge proponent of telling every guy I know to go get a colonoscopy when they turn 40. It is very treatable if caught early and it’s very easy to dismiss the early symptoms.

What doesn't make sense? Everything has to be cleaned out so they can see

I just saw this now and wished I'd have posted then.
I am the biggest baby when going to the doc for any procedure.
I've now had 2 colonoscpoies (age 57), and other than the uncomfortable prep, it was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
I was talking to the doctor about LSU football (up here in Virginia Beach), and the next thing I knew I woke up. Each time he cut out 2 non cancerous polyps during the procedure and I was done.
If I hadn't gone in, those polyps could've become cancerous and in advanced stages, it's not good.
All men should get this. I'm trying to get my son approved for one now at age 31. Chadwick Bozeman was 38 I believe when he passed, and I'm pretty sure he'd still be here with a colonoscopy in his early 30s.

After having one of those you realize all of those colon cleanse adds and all of the impacted waste they claim is in your colon….yeah that’s bullshite.
After drinking that magnesium concoction the day before by the time I showed up to the assembly line…errr…gastro surgery center…my insides had been thoroughly cleaned out. I might drink a bottle of that shite once a year just to flush the system.
Also, do they have to always have attractive nurses in the room when they roll you in there with your arse hanging out?

I don't know where to start with a reply like that. I don't want to write a novel here, but I also hate to say what I'm gonna say because I always hate hearing this kind of shite when I hear others say it....but here goes, If you were a bedside nurse and had done colonoscopy prep for your patients, you could understand what I'm trying to say.
Did you really think that the frustrating part was that I somehow objected to the objective of a purged gastrointestinal tract as a requirement for being considered "prepared" for a colonoscopy? No, it's the method, it's the faulty means of accomplishing that objective that frustrates me.
