on my social feeds I keep seeing stories about people going in to get their check and coming out with stage 3 cancer.
You may have some polyps, but I would be shocked for someone to be in stage 3 colon cancer with no symptoms

I recommend to everyone. Sedation for colonoscopy became a thing because guys don’t want something shoved up their butt, and the doctor always pushes for it because they don’t trust the patient to just be still and chill for 15 minutes and if someone has to come sedate you after they start, they have to start all over. Its not worth it.
No sedation could not have been easier. I don’t remember how long it was, maybe 15ish minutes. I watched everything on screen the doctor saw and she pointed things out to me along the way.
Plus no sedation means you can drive yourself home. No big deal.
Without sedation it’s a faster appointment than a teeth cleaning or yearly doctor checkup.

I had zero symptoms until I got constipated and couldn’t get rid of it. No blood in my stool, I even had my wife, who’s in the medical field, look at it several times when I thought it looked weird and she didn’t see any. My oncologist said the first polyps probably started 10 years prior but I got all the way to a 5cm tumor before I felt anything

Best of luck. It is a very painless procedure.
I had an unfortunate thing happen. A contract anesthesiologist tried to claim my heart had stopped beating for a second. He was out of his territory and area of alleged expertise.
I asked the main doctor about it and he basically told me that there was no concern, though he did not want to be really say anything about the anesthesiologist. I even filed a report and spoke with a high level official about it. Their response was they could not do anything to reprimand him, since he was a contract employee. Too bad they couldn't at least have not allowed him to return to the hospital.
I certainly hope nothing remotely like that happens (or happened) to you. l I do not get on this particular board daily, so don't know if you've had the procedure done yet or not.

A lot of people don't realize it, but the overly risk averse discharge procedures discourage single and divorced men from getting any of this testing done. You can't drive home, OK, can you take an Uber? No. So plenty of us spend six months scheduling around a favor from another dude that has kids and a wife to waste hours to pick you up, to drop you off at home.
If you're at risk (senior, dementia, history of falling) great. But most men in their 40s and 50s are not that.
