Why do people take so long to work out

Like I get if you’re doing a full body work out, cardio, stretching, weights, etc.
What I am specifically referring to is people taking forever lifting weights. Like, if I’m at the gym and all I’m doing is weights, at most I’ll get 9-12different exercises in. The high end limit of that is about 45 minutes.
I feel weird cause I’ll show up, do a moderate work out, and leave before anyone who was already there has left

So I just was at the gym. I did 6 upper body exercises. 20x3 for each exercise. I was done in 25 minutes and actually a bit sore cause changing things up.
What are the benefits of dragging this out to a 70 minute affair

well...it's not a fricking race, man, but if it is ... I guess you won, didn't you?
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you don't lift shite.

Baws at my gym spend 2hrs there but they spend at least an hour flexing in the mirror and getting their tripod ready to record themselves.

Usually around 90 mins here. 5 min incline walk to warm up, 60-70 min of lifting, 15-20 min of cardio (if I’m feeling spunky).
3-4 exercises per muscle group (PPL split) takes me a solid 70 min usually. That’s with a 2 min rest between sets. I’ll stay 2 hours if I’m off with nowhere to be.. it’s nice being away from chaos, work, and kids for a while.
You must not rest long between sets?

The people that drive me crazy are the ones who spend 15 seconds lifting and then spend the next 10 minutes on their phone.
Some old baw over the weekend was on the seated row machine and the first 10 minutes he was there he used the bench to stretch his legs.

Depends on goals, rest times, etc.
I hit around 16 sets per body part. One body part per day M-F. Hour workouts.
For reference: 16 sets at 90 second rest is 24 minutes just resting. Sometimes I’ll go heavy last set.. that’s 3-5 minutes rest before.
Lastly, mind your business and you do you. People are in the gym: good for them

I move between stations consistently. I’ll usually act in groups of 3. First station I’ll do a set of free weights. Next station I’ll move to a set of machines working out different muscles. Third station is either a leg workout or a sprint of cardio or something.
Works really well because it will give me 2-4 minutes of rest for a muscle group but I have no downtime between moving on to my next exercise.
Now this does require flexibility during busy times. If someone moves in on the lat pulldown while I’m away for example, I’ll just shift to a different exercise. But it does keep the pace brisk

This isn’t how it works

What? If my muscles are starting to be tired, waiting a couple of minutes certainly makes the next set way way way way easier

You gotta wait till your bros are ready to hit the showers.

Go do a Spring Cleaning workout. Easy 70 minute workout. Hell the 3 round warm up takes me 10. Some days he prescribes working up to a 90% 1RM then 3x3 working sets at ~70%. Then a whole other lift prescribed the same.
Most of the PPSA workouts take me an hour.

Worked out by myself yesterday, 17 total sets on my pull B day with 2-3 minute rests. Done in 63 minutes.
Today I worked out with my lifting partner. 16 total sets on my push A day with 2-3 minute rests planned. Done in 95 minutes.
The difference between the two? PullB is a lot of machine work, so barely any set up time. Also, yesterday was Easter. I was one of three in the gym.
Conversely, PushA starts with flat bench, and my workout partner and I have different warm up and working set weights. It’s not a ton, but there is a bit more set up than on a machine focused day. Also, we’re on a strength block, so those planned 2-3 minute rests tend to get stretched as we work up to our singles. The gym was also busier today, which for me means a little socializing.
I’d love to be done in an hour or less per session, but it’s not always in the cards. I’m on a six day PLP, and some of those days (mainly bench and squat), I have to take my time.

That’s 18 sets. If you’re taking a 2 minute rest break between sets, which is really pretty minimal, and each set takes at least 30 seconds that’s a total of 45 minutes.
I don’t see how you’re doing 18 total sets in 25 minutes if you’re at moderate or higher intensity. Maybe I’m just old and slow.

Nah…
Cycling between a group of stations. change between might take 2-3 minutes in total especially at the start. Towards the end, I start getting tired more and might take more time. Or if it’s crowded, I’ll obviously be slowed down.
Tonight I showed up at 6:45 and I spent a fair amount of time talking to the receptionist to get signed up correctly (new gym) and ask questions. And tonight’s was ligjt but…

I didn’t do station 6
I left around 7:15. And I’m not sure how long I spent with reception but I had multiple things I discussed with them

How heavy are you lifting? I’m not asking to be an a-hole, but if I did what you did in 25 minutes with my normal intensity they’d be rolling me out on a stretcher. I’m typically going 7-8 RPE on working sets with 9-10 RPE each final set.

He isn’t lifting very heavy if he is doing that lol
Op why…because research shows 3-5 min rest between sets is better for hypertrophy and strength and the same for fat loss. So why would I rush through?

Depends on the exercise for how exerting. I’m just getting back into working out regularly so I will say I am easily getting to my muscles stamina and not very muscular. I am also extremely long so I excel at something’s way better than others
Bicep curls - 40 (ok, if I wanted to do better posture, knock that to 35)
Lat pulldown - 130
Tricep Raise(two handed) - 50
Butterfly machine - 130
Dumbbell overhead press - 30/35
Definitely not trying to over extend myself on each set. End of the day I left actively sore (in a good feeling way) which is what I was looking for.
My thing is I think it takes people way too long to feel that way. Even when I worked out all the time in college and was in good shape, I’d still be there probably 30-45 minutes
