What’s the opinion on jump rope?

I’m 30 years old and just started running again to lose a little weight. I also do sit ups and pushups...not a bodybuilder by any means, but would like to be somewhat fit.
Unfortunately, I can’t rely on my metabolism anymore as I did in my 20’s lol I have an office job where I sit most of the time.
Is jumping rope another good way to lose weight? TIA!

My opinion is that it is the devil and it hates me and I hate it back. That usually means it's effective.

jump rope is one of the best exercises you can do for what you are wanting. and start doing chinups, burpees and get you a set of rings eventually to allow more exercises.

It's great cardio. It tends to bug my knees a little, so I've never done it for too long, but it absolutely will get your heart going.
If you like it, go for it.

My knees don’t like it so I don’t do it. Otherwise not bad.

I'm great at jump rope...except double-unders. I have no idea why it is taking me so long to figure it out.

I can't stop the single/double/single/double/double/single train.

my body is now so conditioned to mess up at 8-10 that the other day I was actually not messing up, but my body would just stop at 10 reps

I grew up in a boxing gym so learning to jump rope correctly was pretty important. I would highly recommend getting on You Tube and learning how to do it like a boxer because it will make jumping rope so much easier and impress everyone in the gym that isn't a boxer. In fact, the OP could incorporate shadow boxing into that routine for even more cardio work.

Used to jump rope 30 minutes 4-5 days a week. Had a playlist and just got after it. Mixed in different rhythms and doubles, single leg, sprints. Loved it, just got kinda boring. Was pretty damn good at it though. It’s all a rhythm thing. Once you get it, it gets fairly easy. I think the longest I went without messing up was around 10 minutes straight.

If he's trying to really train like a boxer, he needs to race his friend Apollo on a beach and then frolic with him in the water if he wins.

Rocky also knocked out Clubber Lang after that so jumping rope must be legit.

Since I suck at double unders, I have been doing a lot more jump roping in my workouts lately. At the very least, no matter what the work out is, I start with 100 single unders and end with 100 as well. Hopefully It will help me with double unders. One thing is certain, they can get my heart rate up quick.

They get your guts shakin and movin if you're ever constipated
I like them. I can do singles pretty easily, even though I'm like 50lb overweight still. Getting better at double unders but still can't chain more than 2-3 together.

I've always heard it is supposed to be easier on the knees if done correctly as compared to running. May be jumping too high or not on the right part of your feet.
I don't have knee problems so I've never had problems running or jumping rope, but I love rope skippin'

I have all but quit running on a flat surface because of my knees. There is a huge levee where I train that is perfect for sprinting up and down that for some reason doesn't bother my knees at all, so I do that instead. Maybe it is the incline? After 10-15 of those I am generally gassed. Jumping rope is zero issues.
