Has anyone used Run Wild in Alexandria or Shreveport or Fleet Feet in Monroe?

I will start by saying I am relatively new to running. Was over 300 lbs a year ago. A lot of dietary changes plus working my way up to walking around 16-20 miles on a given day on top of weightlifting. Sitting around 195 now. But I have been working on running. All I have are ultraboost which I mainly have because I wear them for everything as the cushioning is comfortable as a pharmacist on my feet 10-12 hours per day.

I have been slowly working my way up to running my first 5k at the end of April. I can run for about 9 minutes without having to slow to a walk for a few minutes and picking it back up. Have been looking for something a little more comfortable for actual running vs everyday wear. I found this thread and curious about the locations in Monroe, Alexandria, and Shreveport as they are the closest to me.

Haven’t used either of those locations but congrats on your progress, you’ll be crushing runs in no time.

Honestly, ultraboosts aren’t terrible for running. They are technically a running shoe. Fleet Feet is cool bc they do the foot scan and it provides some interesting data. Just fair warning, stores are probably going to tell you you overpronate and will put you in Brooks, Mizuno, Asics, or New Balance. All good brands, but that’s what the running stores push. If you don’t have any pain from the ultraboosts, make sure to let them know that a neutral shoe has been working for you. Will give you more options both selection wise and price wise.

I have used Run Wild in Alexandria before. I had to return the shoes they recommended because they hurt my feet. I generally buy all my stuff online because pricing and selection is better.

Friend of mine is one of the owners of one in Alexandria. They have a great selection and will price match if you find it cheaper online.

You can increase that crazy fast. Like in a couple of weeks you'll be able to go a few miles.

I've had two runs in the Brooks Anthem Twos in consecutive days. I had a little left heel pain this morning that subsided throughout the day. I have a little pain in my left lower calf which is probably connected to my heel pain. Otherwise, they seem to be performing just fine. I don't have ridiculous blisters thus far, which was a real issue with my last ol' beater Nikes.

I picked up some new Nike Zoom Fly Flyknits for cheap on the Ebay. They're less stable than my Brook Adrenaline GTS's, but I'm liking the lightweight and the more reactive sole.

I have a bit under 200 miles with my anthem 2s. They’re a fine shoe but the lack of cushion keeps me from reaching for them as often as other shoes. Definitely my least favorite Brooks but still like them over most others.

Zoom Fly FK’s are great. I wear mine for races. Love the Flyknit upper, don’t care for the instability though. I’m also a big fan of React foam though, eying up the React Infinity Runs to replace my Epic Reacts in a few months.

I've been looking at the Epic Reacts, also. I may see if I can find a pair on Ebay for cheap.

The Flyknit upper is great. I've seen some people complain that it holds moisture, but I haven't put them through their paces enough to experience that.

The only downside is that they have 0 support. So much better for people with a high arch. The Epics do have slightly more support via the Nike check giving some structure. I just really like the sock like feel of the Flyknit upper. I’ve never found they hold too much moisture, but I’ve also not run in the rain or in the mud. Do have to warn you that the Epic React traction on wet concrete is not the best, otherwise it’s a great shoe IMO. I’ve seen some people taking them to 500+ miles.

First run today in the brooks adrenaline 20s. Very similar to the 19s. Awesome cushioning but these feel a tad lighter. Very impressed so far with em.

Otherwise for minimal drop I‘d look at something from Saucony with the new PwrRun+ midsole.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Most comfortable shoes I’ve ever run in and no knee pain.

Happy to help. Hope they work out for you in the long run. Saucony has a really solid lineup this year.

I managed to make it to Fleet Feet in Monroe. They didn't have any Adrenaline 20s in stock, but they did have the Ghost 12s. Tried on a few different shoes, but will say the Ghost fit like a glove. Interested in ordering a pair of Adrenalines to try as well to get a rotation in if they fit well. Strongly considering order an extra pair of Ghosts too though.

It is insane how much better my body feels after a couple runs in them vs what I have been doing in my ultraboost this whole time.

Now that I have a good shoe for running on the road, track, or treadmill. I was curious would anyone recommend getting a trail shoe? I have a marine buddy who wants to run 3-4 miles a day/3 day per week. But he runs out in the country on trail routes and gravel roads. As I am still very new to this, didn't know if it would be worth looking into a trail shoe.

If it’s mostly gravel, probably don’t need a trail shoe. If you’ll be hitting some mud or slick grass, then maybe.

Can get Nike Pegasus Trail’s for a good deal right now. I’ve been eyeing the Terra Kiger bc I run on the Streetcar line in Nola and it gets messy sometimes and my Epic Reacts are shite for traction.

I've got the saloman Speedcross 4. They were on sale on Amazon when I bought them. Love their lacing system. Been good on the trails so far.

Honestly if it’s your first trail shoe, go to academy and get a $40-60 pair of New Balance or ASICS and see how much you like trail running. I have a $40 pair of Asics I run in regularly and love them. I busted my arse in them this weekend actually and tore my knee up. But that was due to low light and slick rocks.

I like my hundred dollar pair of Brooks MORE but they’re still pretty solid.

30% off site wide at adidas.com includes sale items. Code is MARCH30. Grabbed some UB20’s for under $100.
