The early generations of carbon plated shoes (4% and next %) were probably not ideal for a novice. However, the newer iterations (alphafly, adios pro 3, endorphin pro 3, new balance rc elite V2) all have a shite ton of cushioning and the ride is far less aggressive. The alphafly is a polarizing shoe and not everyone likes it, but one of the other shoes I mentioned will be a natural evolution for someone that feels their endorphin speed has lost a little pop.

Looking for a minimalist trail running shoe. I've heard a lot about the Merrill Trail Glove. REI has them marked down to $80ish right now. Any other recommendations? TIA

FYI: Joes New Balance outlet just added Rebel V3 for $69 and SC Pacer for $99.

Skechers has really stepped up their running shoe game.
Daily trainers - GoRun Ride series - I've put as much as 100k on a single run with them and feet felt great
Cushion - Max Road series - These have replaced my Hoka Cliftons that I ran in for years. Incredible for recovery runs and feel great on long runs as well.
Speed - speed freek - 7oz with carbon plates. I've set PRs in everything from half-marathon down in these

Got a pair of Vaporfly 2s from Nike last night for $150 (originally $250). Lots of sizes available in many colors, all on sale…I assume the VF 3s are about to drop soon.
