If you are in Houston, head up to BikeLane near the Woodlands. You may have seen the "Go See Ken" stickers around town. There are a few guys that work in there, but Ken is the main guy and they usually will defer to him if you are looking for tri bikes. Familiarize yourself with what you are interested in (size, price range, components, brand, etc.). If you are open to different bikes, he regularly knocks a crazy amount off the MSRP. At least he did for me and a few people I know who can go in their and discuss bikes with him. It's a new bike, so likely a little higher than buying used. But for instance, my first tri bike was $2999 new and he gave it to me for $1999. I probably would have paid $1500 if I tried to find the same bike year or two old used. He took $1250 off of a $3500 road bike I got from him. If I'm not mistaken, they place their orders for the next year in the fall (~September), so they are willing to deal around that time.

I've also bought used on Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace and sold all my bikes that way when I hung it up. But Bike Lane sometimes has deals that are too good to pass up. It was never even a haggle....just let him know generally what I'm looking for and he says "well I've got an XYZ in the back that size.....let me check.....I can let it go for $xyz."

Thank you! I'll actually be up there this weekend, and will definitely check it out.

Is there a "Kelly Blue Book" for bikes? If I'm buying used (especially online) I'd like to have a general Idea of price so I don't ask for a price thats laughably low or way too high. I'm sure years, miles, and user care make a big difference.

Bicycle Blue Book

I'd check Facebook marketplace to compare too.

Does anyone have a good 10-12 week century training plan they recommend?

Time to have an honest conversation about Zwift Hills:

“They Suck”

P.S. “They’re are absolutely zero hills in Mandeville. None.”

I know this feeling! Knock out 40 miles and see "elevation gained: 12ft"

Ha, best I’ve done is Elev. Gain 159 feet on a 51 mile trip.

In Mandeville terms that’s Everest.

Think I would have to ride around on a 4" fat tire bike just to get resistance to get any sort of meaningful effort with that type of elevation.

How often do y'all go through cleats for clipless pedals?

Mine just about wore down to nothing after about a year of use. Couldn't even clip in this afternoon.

I've been riding the same speedplay pedals for 15 years and finally had to replace the cleats 2 years ago

Wondering the same. Mine look beat, but still functional. I have my fitment scheduled in a couple weeks. I may have him slap a new pair on so I can start fresh after the fit.

I had some Shimano SPD-SL cleats and the yellow rubber edges just completely wore away.

Wasn't expecting them to last an eternity, but was wondering if a year is about the norm for moderate/heavy use.

Need some recommendations:

I have $100 to spend through work for some health related purchase.

Are there any programs/classes that yall enjoy? Can be cycling or non-cycling related.
(I already have Zwift and GCN+.)

Stipulations: "Program includes healthy/fitness club membership, physical activity classes, online/on-demand programs, and select nutritional programs."

Pretty much can't be used directly on equipment or food.

What about a TrainingPeaks membership? Feel like I’ve heard it mentioned in this thread previously.

Disclaimer: I’ve never used it

Got 40 in this am up in St. Francisville. 1,500’ of gain. Heat was absolutely brutal as I didn’t get started until 10:15. 100 degree feels like by the time I finished.

Swung by the bike shop on the way in and now have a power set up and carbon rims on order… and had to pick up a pair of shorts while there!
