Quarq on the power setup and Zipp on the wheels most likely. Depending on availability. Quarq stuff is on the way.

You'll be broke in a year tops! I know, I've been there.

Love when there's a headwind on the way out, then absolutely zero wind on the way back
But pretty proud of this one, plus I got my weekend ride out of the way early.

ETA: Going to guess and say my altimeter is a tad bit messed up as well.

Got in 30 with icegator337 this morning. Wind was absolutely brutal…felt like I was dying the last 7 or so miles

I got 25 in at 17.8 today. I wanted 18 mph, but I’m happy. I’m way faster and I can tell. Training hard works.

I don’t know how, but the wind wasn’t WNW and was blowing in whatever direction my face was facing

Solid 30 miles with Walt this am. Did some drafting for the first time today. Pretty amazing how much that helps. I was able to make it my longest and fastest ride so far

Update. Went to Bike Lane and it’s a good bit out of my price range. Was told a 61 cervelo tri bike would be my best bet and that happens to be the exact bike a guy on a FB tri group sent my way. Used for 1k and if it’s in good shape I’m likely going to pull the trigger.

frick Eureka Springs.

Wife crapped out physically at 52 of 64. I feel accomplished though, it was both our longest rides and we were blessed with over 3800ft of elev gain.

Hats off to you baws that cover this type of ride regularly.

It was funny though, the uphills to me were fine (small ring in 10th), it was the 200ft straight drops into a narrow bridge followed by a blind curve full of rural traffic that absolutely fricked my mind.

We did 72 and about 7600ft of climbing into a headwind that never stopped. Legs are upset with me right now

I’m thinking about keeping a lookout on FB marketplace for a used road bike. I’m between 5’11” and 6’ tall. Should I be looking for a size 56 or a size 58? Is there that much of a difference between the two sizes for a beginner?

Dont get caught up too much on sizes. A 56 would be more "textbook" but your arm length, torso, etc come into play aside from general height.

There is plenty of room for movement in the cockpit via movement along saddle rails and stem size/angle.

WW - Thanks bro, it was way over our pay grade and comfort zone, but I think once we get back to reality it will make us better riders at home.

Well, now I'm even more uneasy about the 105 miler (in Arkansas) that I've got in late September. 5,000' of gain.

I have no real way to prepare for the 2 significant climbs that are on the ride. Closest I've done so far is a 60 miler with about 2K'. I'm not worried so much about cardio fitness as I'm coming off of a Marathon block where I ran a 3:27:00 in January (probably in 3:20 shape) and a 1:29:30 Half in March. I'm more worried about my legs, cramps mostly. I started cramping up on the 60 miler that I mentioned above. Now granted it was brutally hot and my fueling was not up to par at all. Probably took in about half the calories I should have. That's why it's training, right? I gotta figure it will be significantly cooler late September in Arkansas than July in Louisiana.

The downhills like you mentioned is what most concerns me. I know my handling isn't good enough to take them at speed, especially considering one of them is pretty curvy on the way down. Had a guy die on it a couple years ago when he blew a tire. One of the climbs looks to drop about 400' instantly, straight down.

I am not afraid to say that I got off of my bike (along with multiple people) and walked down one of them. It was straight down and fed into a ONE lane bridge then shot into a blind left turn.

It was a great ride, but with my limited experience I just couldnt calm down enough for it to be fun.

I checked Strava data for the winners and their top speed was 51mph.

I can see that for sure. I feel that way at times when riding the hills near Mississippi. It's relentless.

This is the profile for the Arkansas ride, compared to what I consider hilly that I've been training on.

Descending is definitely something that just takes some time to get comfortable with. Been working on it for 3 years since we moved up here and I still get a little spooked on mountain descents that are multiple miles and youre gonna be 40+ a majority of the way down. It’s definitely a skill you gotta work on

Right!

Got tired of waiting for my local shop to get back with me on wheels, so went ahead and ordered a set of Hunt 4050's. With stock low everywhere, I didn't want to risk not being able to get my hands on some. In stock and should have them this week.

Hunt makes a nice wheel. I’ve been looking at their carbon gravel wheels
