I’d like to see if any of the GLP-1 agonists had direct causation of muscle loss or is it lack of calories and weight loss in general. I’d also like to see a breakdown of % water, muscle, bone was lost vs standard weight loss in control

There's a good thread on this on pg 2. LINK

I read thru it a couple times when I was contemplating asking my Dr about it. From what Jose, lsu777, and a couple others mentioned, it slows your digestion and keeps you full longer. End result is you are in a huge calorie deficit.

Delays gastric emptying times thus making you full longer.

In diabetics, it increase insulin secretion which is how it improves blood sugars.

But the delay gastric emptying is also the cause of the side effects. The most common are nausea, vomitting, and constipation. All of which are caused from the stomach staying full longer.

It really has been life changing for some people. Crazy how one of the states with the highest obesity rate implemented restrictions on getting the medications. Typical Louisiana politics.

personally know the biochem behind this, i cant see the medicine itself actually being the cause of the muscle loss. i think its a combination of 3 things

1) severe caloric deficit
2) lack of protien and lack of even getting to 0.8g per
3) lack of resistance training

combine the 3 and and add on many patients doing cardio as thats what they think they need to do and you have the perfect recipe for muscle loss.

What really pissed me off was when they pulled the coupon for Mounjaro this fall. It went from everyone could get it for $25 to $1200 because the pharmaceutical company wasn't making money. If the FDA would just approve the damn medicine for weight lose.

LSU777 hit the nail on the head 1-3. The lack of resistance training is a big issue. Most people want to lose weight without having to put forth much effort.

We do 3D body scans once a month on everyone that is in our program in order to track weight and inches loss. Then go over dietary changes as needed.

They’re saying late 2023 for FDA approval…. Do you think they’ll re-brand it for a weight loss version like Wegovy did?

We had some people come to us because of the coupons getting rejected. Just shows you how big Pharma runs the show. Just like insurance companies telling doctors how to practice medicine.

Agreed. Pulled it on whim too. They said that the people who were on it already, would be grandfathered. But only some people got it.

Maybe so. I heard June 2023 but I'm not getting my hopes up. The reps from Mounjaro are always at our office trying to push it and I'm like no one can afford this medicine guys.

Right. A few hundred a month is doable but at 1000-2000 a month you’re paying a 2nd mortgage. Not sure how or why but my Insurance covers it for $25 without a coupon.

Insurance not covering it is stupid. It’s got to be cheaper than having some morbidly obese person.

Insurance covering $1,000 a month (IN PERPETUITY - because everyone is going to regain their weight when they come off so they will have to stay on it) is not cheaper than covering an ER heart attack / stroke visit in 15 years.
