Let me get this out of the way...YES I'M FAT.

Peloton vs. Echelon

The only differences I see between the two are that the Peloton is about $1k more and has a screen included. Whereas the Echelon uses your TV or a tablet. Are there other significant differences that I'm missing?

Any other recommendations?

Do you prefer penis or vagina? If penis, get the peloton. If vagina, get a gym membership.

I'll offer a 3rd option. Get a decent bike and a smart trainer for similar money. Then when the weather is nice you can actually ride outside.

I have been a cyclist for essentially my whole life and indoor training can be boring, which is part of what smart trainers/Peleton try to limit. While they do to an extent riding outside is much less boring.

Needs to have enough room available for the peloton altar.

Peloton for sure unless you’re poor.

Agree with others. Don't buy into the fad. A month or a year from now it will be another piece of junk taking up space.

Echelon isn't gonna have nearly as much content as Peloton does. You have your choice of thousands of classes. Not just rides on the bike either. There are classes you can take off the bike (can use the Peloton digital app that you cast on to your tv or tablet, laptop, etc) for yoga, strength, boot camp, stretching, and other non bike cardio classes. All included with your Peloton membership.

Here is the thing though...do you actually enjoy spin classes? If you do...you will love the Peloton and it won't become a clothes hanger.

Try this first before you pull the trigger on the Peloton. Download the Peloton app on your phone (i think there is a free trial period and then it's like $20/mo after that). Go to the gym and get on a spin bike and do a class on the app to see if you like it or not. I was an app rider for almost a year before my husband bought us one so I knew it was something I would actually use on a regular basis. Doing rides on the actual Peloton vs a regular bike is MUCH better though because 1) you have all your metrics on the bike and have more ways to track your progress 2) you can match the exact resistance called out in the classes. With a regular spin bike...you have to guess what the resistance on the spin bike is to match the numbers called out in a class (ex: the Peloton does resistance as a percentage from 0-100...other spin bikes will usually have it as a number from 0 to around 24).

If there is a physical Peloton showroom near you...go there and they will let you do a ride on the bike to see if you like it.

Or...just buy yourself a much cheaper spin bike to use at home and use it with the Peloton app. If you still are consistently using it after 6 months to a year...upgrade to the actual Peloton bike.

Depends on how much motivation you need.

If you’re not really serious save the money. If you’re like me and was fed up with being fat, hated looking at myself in the mirror, was ready for a change and a huge fire was lit under me to be someone different... get some sweatshirts and sweatpants, some headphones and go running every day. Around your neighborhood, join a gym, doesn’t matter. Run your arse off, drink a half gallon of water a day, eat healthy and watch the weight start to drastically fall off even in the first week.

I bought a used Peloton for $1500 with the latest generation screen from someone who never used it. I'd look for a deal like that.

Add a Zwift membership and it isn't that horrible

And I agree, riding outside is way better

Zwift is amazing, I run it with Wahoo Kickr smart trainer. Not into Peloton or spinning classes.

Running is great exercise. But really, most people would benefit from just getting their asses off the couch and walking everyday.

Buy a dog. Walk it 2-3 times a day.

Join a local gym. Start weight training. Don't give up.

I only say this because I loathe running.

Just did this very thing. Was 1300$(bike/shoes/tacx flow) to get started inside running Zwift (awesome).

I've probably spent another 1k or so of outdoor gear. Going to start joining group rides soon.

Loving it so far. I'll probably upgrade the trainer next winter and possibly the bike as soon as this summer.
