A few years ago, the MS Gulf Coast marathon finished about .1 miles short.

Look it up. I think it was 2016. We joked about it all the time back then.

I'd be down for this as well. I think I could do this and Houston a month later. Problem is that Registration appears closed on the website.

It's been a rough start to the running / racing year for everyone. Jan and Feb went great for me logging 600 miles but then disaster struck. Some type of hip flexor issue has had me sidelined since beginning of March. "Lucked" out with Boston getting moved but I can't run the rescheduled date because of conflict with another race should either actually happen and I get this issue figured out. Xray and ultra sound didn't revel anything. Injection in tendon didn't do it.
Biggest disappointment has been having to withdraw from Badwater 135 which as of now is still a go. Going to be real heartache now if race actually happens because I still will have to go to the race to crew / pace girlfriend or if it doesn't happen the race field gets rolled over to next year but since I withdrew I probably don't get back in.

Looking ahead as in way ahead if I'm still in NOLA and haven't moved to Philly I'm down to run MS Gulf Coast. Ran it 2018. Great course for a fast time. Small field so you aren't bobbing and weaving around everyone. No corrals so if you are honest and deserve to start in the front you can literally put toes on the line.

Did 6 yesterday at a similar pace. Didn't wear the HR monitor. My HR varies a good bit based off the terrain. Running these hills, you'd have to drop to a 12-13 min pace to maintain a 150-160 HR. So, I just maintain the 9-10 min pace and let my HR jump to the 170 range. 530' of elevation change yesterday with a bitch 110' climb at mile 5 that lasted a 1/2 mile.

Have we discussed hydration? I'm sure after several hundred pages that it's been touched on. The only time I ever drink anything is before and after my runs unless I'm in my run groups.

Disclaimer: I’ve never ran longer than a half. I’m sure I’ll have a sip or two of H2O when I run the full.

I rarely drink during runs, even when it’s a scorcher. If I’m thirsty, I’ll swing by a place with a water fountain. Prob happens once per month.

I don’t know when they’ll open registration for the MS Gulf Coast Marathon up. I can snoop around and find out though.

Damn, looks like we have about 10 people ready to go

My run groups religiously stop for water. I haven't worked up the nerve to ask why we stop (socializing, hydration, etc, etc).

I plugged in the training plan for the marathon... we’ll see about that. I expect to at least run the 1/2. Also looking forward to the Northshore 1/2 on 10/11... if it goes.

Possibly in for MS Gulf Coast as well. Ran the full in December '17 and enjoyed the experience.

Big 5K time trial for me today. Would be stoked with anything sub-18:30.

I only pack hydration or gels/snacks if I'm going longer than 13.1. Anything else, I drink a little before and a bunch when I'm done.

yeah looks like registration is paused for the time being. had a blast at the la marathon in jan. and i see this race is run by the same people.

i've decided to only run flat courses for marathons from here on out. save the hills for the trails.

Hey, negative splits! That's what we mostly all hope for in our runs.

Anyone getting tired of their at home running routes yet? I am blessed to live in a park community in NOLA, that is also on the lake. I have a lot of great routes. But still, I've run them so many times over the years. I used to cherish my work trips about 3x per month, where I would make sure to stay near a trailhead. New Orleans is so flat and has few trails. I miss work trips to Albuquerque and runs in the Sandia foothills.

I'm lucky in that respect. You can run anywhere in this area.

In other news I got my coach, I'll keep their name to myself in case I let any secrets accidentally slip.
They use the VDOT system whatever the frick that is (he said sarcastically). I'm a VDOT 64.61, whatever the frick that means, lol.

I only poke fun because we really don't know how running endurance, and science work together. We just know what works by trial an error, but by god we're gonna shoehorn a bunch of science sounding bullshite in there, aren't we? Rubbish.
