Last year's winner of the marathon I am going to run in December won with a 2:43:35. Only seven finished below 3 hours. You could probably win this thing, Burt. Get you a nice medal shaped like a crab.
Sidebar: there were 556 marathoners last year, 1,443 half marathoners, and 702 people who ran the 5K. MS Gulf Coast Marathon is larger than I thought

Honestly, I'll keep it in mind as I am looking for plan Bs for if/when New York gets cancelled this year. November/December is what I'm looking for. Thanks!
ETA: It's in Biloxi? Hell yeah, I spent almost nine months in Biloxi fricking off at Keesler for tech school. If I could sum up my time there, I'd use the phrase "black out in Biloxi".

I ran the half last year and enjoyed it, other than the headwind the entire race

There’s a marathon on 11/28 at the Stennis Space Center too.
4 easy miles this AM for me. Reminder: buy some body glide asap. Those runs the day after long runs are tearing me up in places lol

I can already predict the weather along the Coast for December 13, 2020:
50% chance of temps in the 50s and 60s, abundant sunshine, and wind from the W at 7-11 mph
30% chance of temps in the 60s and 70s and overcast and cloudy skies, winds from the NE at 9-13 mph
20% chance of temps in the 50s and rain.

Yep.
We plan to be in Paris that weekend, but who knows whether that will happen the way things are going.

The marathon starts in Pass Christian and finishes at MGM Park on Casino Row. You run along the beach the entire way. Very minimal elevation. There is a strong possibility of high winds though coming off the water. Fortunately, most winds on the coast come from the west, so the wind should be at the runners’ backs.
On the race’s website, there is a dropdown tab with Des Linden’s name. There is nothing on the other side of the link though. I am not sure if she plans to run but that would be cool to have a Boston champ here.
I’m fricking stoked to run it.

Same. And that trip up the I-10 ramp kinda sucked when I trained on nothing but flat ground.
Eyeballing the full this year.
Still pissed about the Jazz 1/2 pulling the plug so early. I need to find a 1/2 to run in September or October.

Northshore Half on 10/11 is still on, for now.

Cool. Thank you.
I bet there will a pretty good increase in number of runners from last year if this race doesn’t cancel.

Hey y’all. I’ve been a longtime lurker in this thread. I never run a full marathon. Most I’ve ever ran in one sitting is 16 miles.
Currently average about 20-22 a week running 3 times a week. Also have a peloton and ride it about 3-4 times a week plus do a lot of bodyweight strength and core stuff. I can run 10 miles with ease right now at a 9:15-930 pace.
I really want to take the plunge and do a full this fall. Have no idea where to even start looking for training as there are so many plans out there. I love running for distance and usually my runs are between 7-10 miles when I do get out there. I’m 27, about to be 28 and feel really good on most of my runs. This thread has always seemed very welcoming so hoping for some solid advice. Thanks so much!

Hulk, I’m in the same boat as you. Not a serious runner, but these are all solid dudes in here that are super encouraging. They helped me get through my one and only half marathon last year, whether they know it or not.
I’ma big guy like you, currently at 280. Don’t get discouraged by their paces, these dudes are studs. You do you, and they’ll cheer you on along the way.

She was out there last year.

This page includes a breakdown of common plans:

I wouldn’t overthink it too much. Would just select something from there that fits what you’re looking for

Got 2 miles in today at about a 13:00 pace. I started out feeling great but hit a wall and gave in. Wanted to get another 5k in. Guess it's just not there sometimes

Weeeeeelllllllll . . . some of us are studs. Me? Ehh, just trying not to die
Best of luck to all the baws and bawettes starting out. Y’all will eventually get to the point where you can’t wait to run! If I can give one piece of advice it’s simple: listen to your body. If you’re hurting too bad, take a day off. It’s gonna be just fine in the long run.

That’s stud in my book. My fastest 5k I’ve ever done was 9:30/mile. And here you are just pumping out solid 8:30s for 9 straight miles.

I love seeing stuff like this. I had never really considered Birmingham hilly until I started running.
