Damn really? I prefer to run between 40 and 60...I’m absolutely dreading summer.

I do not like cold weather at all. The oppressive heat running months - July through September - don’t bother me too much. I always hit my long runs very early though.

Just as was getting going on my next training cycle, we hit a patch of bad weather, and I got tonsillitis. I ran about a mile on ice last Friday before deciding I should turn around. My throat had been hurting. I looked at it in the mirror after getting back from my run and saw swollen tonsils and white spots in the back. Dammit.

I ended up getting 4.5 miles in on Saturday, but I took Sunday and Monday off and spent most of my weekend and holiday in quarantine. It was 0 this morning with the windchill, but I got 4 easy miles in anyway. Looks like I will be essentially starting over this week. Fortunately, I wasn't too far along, and there will be plenty of 5K race opportunities in March and April.

Great Job setting a new PR!

sidenote: I really doubt the course was long. its a certified race, boston qualifier, and decent prize money on the line.

Course Certification
The Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon courses are certified by the Road Running Technical Council of USA Track & Field. The Houston Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K are sanctioned by USA Track & Field and the Gulf Association of USA Track & Field.

If it was a curvy course, you can end up running an extra .25 to .5 miles just taking the outside track several times.

2 miles in 16:11 on a treadmill. Three tomorrow and five on Saturday.

Treadmills give me shin splints only on the inside of my left leg. Hate it

The course weaves in and out of the lanes quite a bit. My Garmin said I ran 26.87. Some roads are completely shut down while others are left or right lanes only.

What have y’all done for shin splints? Anything outside of rest and ice? I’ve thought about cryotherapy but the doc I went see last week said it’s overkill.

I only had real issues with shin splints when I first started running. I just backed of some for a week or two, and they went away. I’ve never had a bad case where there was swelling or anything though. I still get a very mild case of it occasionally when increasing mileage, but it has always gone away by just leveling off or reducing by 40 percent or so for a week before resuming the building.

Exactly. Sub 60 is ideal for me on the high side, I’ll run in single digit temps with a smile. As long as the wind ain’t whippin’.

... somebody say abs?

Anywhere between 40-70 is perfect for me. Below 40 I always second guess what I will wear. Coldest I've run in was ~15 F and snowing in Montreal, and compared to every Summer in Houston, give me cold every time.

Anybody deal with hot spots when they get new shoes? I thought it was just my last pair but now this pair is doing it also. After a couple of miles the balls of my feet get hot, I guess from rubbing. Last time I switched my inserts with my old ones and that fixed it but now those are really worn. Does it just go away if I fight through it a couple more days?

That is poor line choice and on the runner. The course itself is certified. GPS tracking tends to be off especially if you are around tall buildings. My watch at NYC recorded 26.75. Picking a correct line is critical and becomes really important the longer the distance. I've seen people at 100 milers run on the far outside of the fire road the entire course. when the course has several loops you could be adding miles....
