I just got the Garmin 645/music watch and it gives some pretty good details. Nice being able to run without my phone and still have some tunes. Also syncs up and works well with Strava which is cool for me bc I only have like 3 friends on Garmin connect. Lol

The weather has been a major pain in Kansas this week. Looking forward to getting back on track this weekend.

I feel you brother. I do not like running on treadmills at all. Looking forward to running in 50-60 degree temperatures and sunshine tomorrow.

I usually do the treadmill if I can;t run outside, but I haven't really started my next training cycle, so it's been easy to just say eff it.

And just like that I am on the shelf. My ten miler on Sunday I fear was too much for my bilevel herniated lumbar discs. Been tight and uncomfortable all week, and running is out of the question. Cross training, Ochsner's Healthy Back Program, and core work here we come! Was going to run Sunday with my 16 yr old son for my 52nd birthday. Hate not running on my birthday.

Sorry to hear that. Rest up, do what your doctors say, and you’ll be back at it in no time!

Damned back injuries. Hope you heal up soon and can keep yourself healthy in the meantime. The emotional impact of an injury can be as bad as the physical impact for an athlete. It sounds like you have some alternative activities planned though which is good for both.

Boot off , shoes back on and normal activity , gym , rowing, and lower body exercises all good.

Said I can have first run in 6 weeks which is March 6th. That gives me 42 running weeks in 2020 and I'll be good for any fall race I pick.

Kballa6,

My neighbor and I will do Marine Corps Marathon ( lottery dependent),2021 Chevron, or 2021 Woodlands.

What's next for you?

Best of luck. Hopefully it doesn't rain. It really is a good race.

I honestly don’t know. I’ll put in for NYC lottery again just because I enjoyed it so much. I didn’t get into Chicago by lottery which was a bummer. I’ll probably just focus on getting faster. I do want to try a triathlon at some point so I need to work on my swimming and biking.

I’m waiting on it to warm up a little before I go run. It should be 53 or so around noon and that sounds nice, especially with the bright sunshine.

I can’t imagine running a major marathon. My wife (no pics) and I honeymooned in Paris. Just for shits and giggles I looked up how many people run in their annual marathon: 55,000+

I feel like you’d be bumping in to someone the whole race.

I’m considering training for a triathlon after I run a half marathon in March. There is a sprint distance in May and an Olympic distance in September I’m interested in.

Damn man, really hate to hear that.

As far as a major Marathon, I'd love to do one one day although the Logistics alone of race day morning seem like they would be enough to get me into an anaerobic state!

5 miles in 42:11 (8:26/mile pace). This was a great run. It was challenging, but I kept pace very well. I felt myself slowing down around 3.5 miles (my mind was wandering and I was not focusing on pace), but I was able to regain focus.

Next week's training schedule:
Monday - 3 miles
Tuesday - 2 miles
Wednesday - 3 miles
Saturday - 6 miles

Half marathon is in 56 days!

I think it would be cool to run through the streets of a major city considering all my miles have been run in a small town. At least I get to run along the beach and there is usually a breeze. It's just hard to imagine running with 50,000 other people.

I’d almost rather not run than do a treadmill, they frick up my legs every time. Weather in Houston was perfect for running today. Got an easy 5 in.

Nice, keep at it! You doing the Higdon intermediate plan?

Got 8.6 today @ 8:14/mile. Faster than I wanted and wonky distance bc my Vivosport’s screen crapped out and my Apple Watch died and bricked itself. Had to bring my phone which I hate and didn’t have an easy way to check pace and mileage.

Oh, and anyone here doing the Rock’n Roll NOLA? Might be a late entry for the 10k.

With you on that one. Fortunately where I live in Arkansas, there isn't a day you can't run outside unless it's lightening or everything is covered in ice. We're good for a few single digit temps and the wind never stops blowing, but those aren't excuses I use to not run outside.

If I had a 4000 dollar treadmill, that would all change of course.

8K race in two weeks. I'm not real excited about it but I like that distance better than 10k. Sub 28 should be expected unless the weather (wind) is trash. I hit 5 miles in 28:05 on a training run in October so I'd like to see what, if any improvement I've accomplished since then.
