Not plateauing quite yet as far as my long term goals go, but it's getting harder to get faster at the shorter distances. My running type is "distance monster" so I can hold a threshold pace forever but can't really hold on to what it takes to run a fast 10k. The difference between my marathon pace and my 5K pace is about 30 seconds in spite of any vO2 or speed pace work I do. Also, I need someone to teach me how to race; big time.
My marathon time an potential says I'm in 16s 5k shape but I can't break 17.
As far as the wife goes, it's amicable. We've done the couples therapy and it seems that even though we love each other and care for the other's well being, there are issues that we cannot resolve as a team.
TLDR:
Got a lot of headroom at the longer distances but need to get an outside professional to help with getting quicker overall and can no longer lean on my past training in high school and college to progress.
Wife and I are done but it's/we're going to be okay.

Ran a local 5K today. I was hoping I could repeat my 7/min mile time from a couple of weeks ago, but turned in another 8/min mile time. Couple of things: I think I might be sick (throat is sore), it was downtown and seemed to run into the wind at every turn, and just generally didn’t feel right for the first mile or so. After mile two, I felt great and my last mile was my fastest. Wondering if I’m just better suited for the longer distances or just an off day?

Sorry to hear about the issues with your wife.
Training update. I am running a half marathon on March 21. My goal is to finish under two hours (9:09/mile pace). Here are my results from this week (week 1):
Monday, 3 miles - 25:51 (8:37/mile)
Tuesday, 2 miles - 16:44 (8:22/mile)
Wednesday, 3 miles - 25:18 (8:26/mile)
Saturday, 4 miles - 33:26 (8:22/mile)
I am very happy with this week's results. Wednesday and Saturday were challenging, but I guess I was running faster than I thought. I felt as if I was trudging along slowly today (especially around mile three), but apparently I wasn't. Today, my two-mile time was 15:43, which is about 30 seconds better than I normally do. The cool weather and gentle breeze definitely helped.
Next week's runs are:
Monday - 3 miles
Tuesday - 2 miles
Wednesday - 3 miles
Saturday - 5 miles
Next week, I'd like to work some simple strength training in on Mondays and Wednesdays. I'm thinking:
Squat, 3 x 10
Incline bench (barbell or dumbell), 3 x 5
Military press, 3 x 5
Biceps/triceps (whatever I'm feeling)
I want to keep my time at the gym short. Anyone have any suggestions?

That looks like good progress. But there’s a lot more people on this board that know more than I do.
I did a 5 miler on Thursday and today and averaged 8:45 and 8:35, respectively. The five pounds I packed on over the holidays is slowing me down a bit. Tomorrow is 10 miles and I need to stay under 9:00.
I can’t comment much on the weights as I have been out of the gym for a while and have been doing a group workout that is kind of CrossFit light the last couple of years 2x per week, then running 3-4 days per week (usually 3). You may want to look into something like that as it combines strength and conditioning.
That said, I think I’ll drop it temporarily and strictly run 5 days a week for the 5-6 weeks leading up to my last 1/2 of the season in April. I’m a little older and it seems working out takes more recovery time these days and negatively impacts my run times.
Did you chuck the old Nike’s and finally get some real running shoes?

I really appreciate that 3N. Even though it's tough, we realized together with our therapist that splitting is best. There are no children involved, there are no childish games, there's no money struggles.
The situation consists of two mature professionals that have similar goals but different paths in which we are traveling to get to those goals. It's like two people walking in separate directions in a circle to get to the same point on the other side of it. We met 20 years too early

You are either running too fast or you will crush 2 hours.
I think you are running your easy runs too fast TBH. You should be pacing closer to 9:30 to 10:00 on those easy runs and running a tempo at 8:00 to 8:30 pace. Most of your time should be spent building your aerobic fitness and building your mileage early on.

Regarding the weight training, what are your goals?

Strength. Wife would like my arms bigger of course. I just don’t want to be in the gym very long.

Been there a couple of times. Just don’t end up like the former mayor.
LSU Patrick probably knows a lot more about running than I do.

TA, that looks pretty good. As a novice don’t worry about miles or pace. Feel over pace and time over miles. (Something distance coaches got right in the 90s/2000s)
Start bumping your Saturday run every week or two as you feel comfortable. You don’t have to run 13.1 to run a quick half but you’ll need to get close for endurance and confidence.
You’re not doing any speed work so recovery runs are pointless for you.
I think your 2 hour goal is attainable and you can use it as a benchmark if decide you want to start training for you next race.

Thanks for all the input, y'all.
I plan to add one mile to my weekend run each week until I reach 11 miles two weeks out. I plan to run 11 miles two saturdays in a row and then taper towards raceday. I also plan to add mileage to my weekday runs slowly.

Right now my homegrown plan looks like this:
WEEK - MO - TU - WE - SA
1 - 3 - 2 - 3 - 4
2 - 3 - 2 - 3 - 5
3 - 3 - 2 - 3 - 6
4 - 4 - 2 - 3 - 7
5 - 4 - 2 - 3 - 8
6 - 4 - 2 - 3 - 9
7 - 4 - 2 - 4 - 10
8 - 4 - 2 - 4 - 11
9 - 4 - 2 - 4 - 11
10 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 13.1 (race)
Are there any half marathons in NOLA in the summer? Isn’t there a race at midnight?

For those of y'all that don't know, Ocean Springs's former mayor, Connie Moran, was recently found by a police officer around 3 AM passed out drunk in the middle of one of the city's busiest street

Damn good racing out there today by some in this thread. La Marathon had to be tough as windy as it is here today. Just got back from a 9 miler by feel and by feel I mean whatever the 30 mph gusts dictated.
And of course Walmsley with the 1:02 Half at RnR AZ.

First time at la marathon. Fantastic course. If you want to pr this is the place.
Wind was indeed the only bad part.
The first half of the race is gorgeous. Not that the second is bad, just the views in the first are outstanding.

Yeah I ran the Half last year and ran my best time yet. Around 1:40.

Congrats all LA half and full finishers! Y’all putting up some damn fine times.

Congrats to LA and Houston finishers today.
I was able to shave 32 minutes off my NYC time. A flat course had a lot to do with it and I was able to eat better leading up to the race.
