If it weren’t a glow run I’d say sub 11. Low 11s would be fine with sub 11 being the cherry on top.

@HB hang in there. I feel the same. I think it’s just my body getting used to the heat/humidity. I just relearned how to sweat yesterday.

I have a background in competative Olympic Weightlifting and I "knew" my body was done on that random day where I couldn't pull my warm up set off the ground...like my brain was not talking to my body and I would immediately adjust my entire program.

When I get there from running, I won't feel so bad knowing it impacts guys like you all & just scratch a couple weeks off my calendar.

breaks are good. my hip, achilles, and calves have been shot so i've taken 4/7 days off. feel pretty good and we have rain in the forecast the rest of the day, so i'm hoping for a nice slow rain run today.

Dude... I feel like the schedule you're following is absolutely brutal. You deserve a Purple Heart if you get through all of that.

Tonight, I’m gonna complete my sprint duathlon and start half marathon training:

Run 5K/3.1mi
Bike 20K/12.4mi
Run 2.5k/1.6mi

All in under 90 minutes.

I’ll do a couple of runs on Friday and Saturday and then start Higdon’s Novice 1 half marathon plan on Monday

8 miles in the rain. Wasn’t fast and stopped to walk as my legs are still arse right now but rain felt amazing. Probably the last cool run I’ll have till November.

I did learn that my NF rain jacket hood taps my AirPod knockoffs regularly and paused/fast forwarded/summoned Siri against my podcast/Bible listening for an hour and a half. Very infuriating.

Got my duathlon in at 1:24:06 (84 mins and 6 secs).

Should I be concerned the Higdon Novice 1 plan doesn’t have me running more than 10 miles in a given session? That’s 3.1 mi off the half marathon distance as y’all know

How fit are you already? How many miles are you currently logging? I’d say if you’re already doing 20-25 miles a week, you need to move up a plan.

I’m in pretty good shape. Last week I ran 10 and biked 30.

Higdon would have me running 12 next week. Im just concerned with needing 3.1 more miles to finish a race as his plan only has me going 10.

If you’re in good shape, if can do 10 you can do 13. Dunno, start with the novice and if it’s too easy after 2 weeks, jump up a plan level.

You should probably bump up to Novice 2. It's designed for people that already have an established running base.

As Higdon puts it:

quote:

Before embracing Novice 2, you should have been running about a year. You should be able to comfortably run distances between 3 and 6 miles. You should be training 3-5 days a week, averaging 15-25 miles a week.

I will preface this by saying I have never followed a formal running plan but recently completed a 13.1 mile run for the first time having only run one 10 mile run previously. It can be done.

At the advice of several on this board I consistently worked on upping my weekly miles as well as mixing in speed work which allowed it to happen.

As far as which plan is the right one I don’t know

Thanks for the advice y’all

I’m gonna do what the hog said: stick to the plan and if it isn’t challenging me after a couple of weeks, change. Simple enough.

Since my 70.3 three weeks ago, I've been L-A-Z-Y and it feels GREAT!!!

However, I'm doing the MS150 ride Houston to Austin this weekend.

3nOut, There's an Xterra trail run in Austin this weekend. Actually I think it's Pace Bend. If I wasn't riding to Austin, I'd probably be doing the tri or the trail run.

My group is doing Tejas Pandora’s box of rocks.

After today’s heat run I’m questioning whether or not I’m a capable runner and never want to do a race again.

Got my brother joining the TD.Com group. Ran his first 5K today in 24:30. Not your typical runner as he’s definitely the artsy/holistic type. He’s a musician/dates a Yoga instructor, etc.

The bug is swarming around him, not sure if he’s caught it yet. Of course I’m probably bombarding him with training information, etc.
