For beginner I also followed a slightly modified Higdon plan. Is your goal just to finish?

I feel like I barely have time to check the thread anymore...work sucks

Higdon is a good plan. I used his plans for most of my marathon training.

Also, I've always had Garmin watches, but I'm looking hard at the Coros Apex right now.

I like the style and the ability to wear it (and not look like a tool) when I'm not running. It doesn't necessarily look like a sport watch.

Does anyone have a Coros?

Thank you

Do y’all think it’s worthwhile to take on a half first rather than try and tackle a full?

As for goals, I’d Like to finish the half in under 1:45:00. However, I need to work on Times first and I’m considering just getting one under my belt first before trying to get in below a time. Is that viable?

if it's possible, try to find a half that fits nicely into your full training schedule

as in, see if you can find a half on a weekend where you are scheduled to run 10-14 miles or so

that is what I have always tried to do

If he's in the Baton Rouge area and the Louisiana Marathon is the goal race, Baton Rouge Beach Half Marathon is a good option. I realize that it's not an official race anymore, or it wasnt last year, but it still has a feel of a race with some course support. Although this race could potentially fall on a 20 miler day depending on what plan / group you follow.

Holy shite I’m in love with Garmin. Auto sync, great interface, etc. Not only that, but somehow it pulled my race (CCC) to Strava, as it wouldn’t sync with Polar. Obviously that was a glitch on Stravas end, as I didn’t even have this watch then. Whatever the case, I deleted the manual entry for the race, so now I have all of the segments, etc. Good stuff!

And I’m completely ate up with it. Was up at 3 am staring at the ceiling waiting to bust out and use my new gadget. Proceeded to bang out an exhilarating 8 miles. New watch. Perfect weather. Long lost Razor 2’s on the feet (forgot how well these fit and how much pop they have). First thoughts on the Garmin is that my HR was reading a little lower than Polar. Could just be the aforementioned weather or just getting more fit. I’ll take it.

Higdon, Daniels, McMillan, and Hanson have some of the more mainstream, reputable plans for longer distances. I'd recommend having a look and seeing which one works best for your goals and schedule.

Salmon - I’ve seen multiple posts on IG about Coros being pretty inaccurate as far as pace/distance and GPS for any trail running (which I know you do). I’d do my DD before buying one.

Its probably been mentioned here before, but if your looking for some really good reviews on running watches check out DC Rainmaker for detailed reviews.

I love my 235 and definitely don't want to ruin your honeymoon. I've found the optical HR unreliable, occasionally it seems on point, other times runs crazy high or just off one way or another. Just went on a walk at lunch and it was clocking 150 at times. I pair it with a strap if I'm looking for an accurate reading.

The HR reading from 235 seemed a bit sporadic and at time very inaccurate, so I paired it with the chest monitor. I had my wife perform a manual reading right before and right after a few runs, and the chest strap was closer each and every time. Did the same with her Apple watch since it is what she runs with, and very similar results. I guess this proves that chest strap is the way to go for those HR specific runs.

Gonna do Higdon’s Novice I half marathon plan starting next week. Goal: finish in under 2 hours (9:09 pace). I am going to try and run every mile below pace but who knows how that is going to turn out. I am going to run outdoors unless it is raining hard. I am also gonna do a bunch of pushups and sit-ups as well.

Is there an app y’all use to track runs? Strava maybe?

Here we go!

TD.com is the name. Running 70 mile weeks is their game.

Any NOLA natives ever done the Hotter Than Hell Marathon? Basically have from midnight - 9:00 am to complete 13 2 ish mile loops around Audubon Park... in the first week of July. Think I’m gonna give it a shot this year, should be interesting. Should be some scantily cladness after midnight on a July night in da Park.

I’d be all over that half marathon but I won’t be sufficiently trained most likely.

Does everyone here track on the Strava app using a smart watch? I don’t have a smart watch. I figured i’d Just carry my phone with me or put it in one of those sleeve holsters.
