Need some help here...
For background, I've got into running over the past three months or so and have got to the point where I'm comfortably running 24-30 miles a week in addition to other workouts. Recently, I've been experiencing pretty intense pain in one of my legs and a small knot pops out during and after my runs. Are these shin splints, result of bad shoes, should I go to the doctor, etc?
I don't want to erase any progress I've made so far so any help is much appreciated

Last time this happened to me, I dropped my mileage and intensity by half and rolled the knot in my calf out a couple times a day with a can of corn. I’m told peas, spinach, and various other canned goods will work if you don’t have corn handy. Don’t know if I’d risk it though.

6 miles this morning. My gosh the humidity is here. First really muggy morning of the year. What was suppose to be easy run turned in to, oh-yeah-I-forgot-how-much-humidity-sucks run.

Where's the knot?
Shoes could be a culprit.
I'd wait on a dr visit and like mentioned, drop the intensity and distance, stretch & ice if necessary.

You might be from Arkansas if...

Lower leg
Goes away if I don’t run for a day or two so I know it’s directly related

Your recovery pace is Black and Gold’s race pace?
Just twisting your tit.

Baw, if you have a random knot that keeps popping up on your leg and going away, lower the intensity for a while and go to the doctor FFS.
Got 3 miles yesterday at 27:14, which is barely under the pace I want for the half marathon (9:09/mi or 2:00:00 in total). Two miles later today.

Saturday I wanted to log some extra miles so ran 12 miles to a 5k race and then ran 23:05 in the race
Fun little adventure for the day but jumping up to 15 miles and then walking around festival all day has my ankle sore. I ran easy 5k yesterday just to see how it felt and it feels bruised. Probably no speed work this week and just get ready for next 5k race in a couple weeks

We haven't met our deductible and I'm paying bar stuff left and right so I'm in no rush to run to the doctor if i dont have to

I gotcha buddy
I’m no seasoned runner by any stretch, but I’d just take it easy for a week or so though.

I was just laughing with my neighbor about how I look like a damn fool in this Houston heat -->
My dermatologist requires 100% coverage for me on any run after 10 am so I look like a beekeeper + I promised my wife I would carry water on anything over 1 hour @ 90+ degrees ...she was nice enough to buy a running hydration pack for me but it starts off at 7 lbs and makes me look like a freak on safari ..
She had a young/fit patient die from heat illness on her ER rotation and has taken a hard line stance..I've been married for 10 years, so hydration pack it is.
Oh well, better than melanoma and heat stress ...at least I will feel quick & light on race day and give the moms in the carpool lane something to chat about.

Yep, caught a mid day 7 which was supposed to be easy and I thought it was, but my HR was in the Tempo zone. As mentioned before, I'm thinking/hoping it's just the new Garmin, but the heat is probably a factor also. Regardless, it seems I'm at the point weather wise where my body refuses to sweat much during my run and waits to start pouring once I go inside. Fun times in South La.
On a better note, I have another race on the horizon I believe. Probably will hop in the Jambalaya Festival 5K in Gonzales on Memorial Day weekend (Sat). Hard to pass up as the start line is maybe 15 minutes from my house. Looking for top 5, if last years times hold and I can replicate last months 5K race day effort or better, I can be top 3.

I decided to run intervals about 2:30 this afternoon and found out real quick I’m not ready for the heat. I was totally gassed and decided to head back home after 3 miles. I had to walk the last half mile back to my house during cool down. Bent over to get a water out of the fridge and almost passed out. Not sure if it was the heat or not having eaten since 6:00 am.

Got 2.0 in 17:27. My pace was to be under 18:18, so that’s good.
Gotta run a long 3.0 tomorrow. Not sure if I’ll be able to beat pace then.
Disclosure: Week 1, Day 2 of Hal Higdon Novice I Half Marathon plan.

Just want to post about NOT running and my overall feelings.
Some of you may recall I had set a goal of running 1000 miles last calendar year and I achieved it, plus some. Further I ran a marathon and a half marathon earlier this year.
So, I decided to take some time off from running. I've only run a couple of times over the past three weeks or so.
To be honest, I feel more tired now than when I did run all what I did last year. Amazing how that happens. Keep up the running, everyone.

ETA: how old are your shoes? have you been fitted before?
