And I’m completely ate up with it. Was up at 3 am staring at the ceiling waiting to bust out and use my new gadget. Proceeded to bang out an exhilarating 8 miles. New watch. Perfect weather. First thoughts on the Garmin is that my HR was reading a little lower than Polar. Could just be the aforementioned weather or just getting more fit. I’ll take it.

didn't see this. yeah i think it's fairly well documented that Polar has better HR, Garmin has better maps/GPS. the one polar runner i run with always has to go load his manually because the watch doesn't have a good app with it.

despite arkanhole burt's opinions, this is still my favorite fast shoe. my neighborhood has about 12 different segments i didn't make and i have the KOM on 7 or 8 of them. planning on getting the rest knocked out with those bad boys in the next month.

there is one where i am going to have to do a sub 6 mile for 1.2. not looking forward to that.

Any NOLA natives ever done the Hotter Than Hell Marathon? Basically have from midnight - 9:00 am to complete 13 2 ish mile loops around Audubon Park... in the first week of July. Yes, it’s always stupid hot and muggy. You should try the hotter than hell ultra over at the Northshore Nature Center later that month. I think it’s a dusk til dawn run to get as many loops as you can. Also stupid hot. And just plain stupid.

Had one of those runs this evening where everything clicks. Set out to do 5 miles at whatever pace felt comfortable. Ended up doing splits of 7:10, 7:07, 7:02, 6:48 and 6:20. I guess my fitness is really starting to get better, because I would have guessed that first mile was 7:45 based on how I felt. I kept laughing every mile split that was faster than the previous. The only one I really felt like I was pushing on was the last one, because I wasn’t gonna mess up my negative splits at that point.

Since the weather has started to get crappy, I’ve scrapped 3 speed workouts. I also scrapped that 25k. 2 races left (5k May 11 and 2 miler the 31st) and then I’m going to take it easy on the workouts until my marathon plan kicks in.

I also just signed up for a 5k on May 11th

...and a beer mile, which I fully intend to go sub 6 on (I'll probably vomit)

Based on advice here , I'm ditching my 2nd heart rate based run (155 bpm) on Wednesdays.

I'm going to replace it with a run based just on how I feel..I can get 2 warm up miles before I leave my subdivision so I'll do those and assess how I feel then hit my fast , distance, or standard route.

Thanks for getting me to shake it up.

I was signed up for a 5K May 11 hoping to go sub 20 for the first time. Had to scratch that plan because my wife signed me up to run girls on the Run 5K with my 9 year old. It will still be a good time and maybe I can help her achieve a PR.

If I manage to free up this weekend my plan is park the truck and set up some music, ice chest of beer, and run it slow. We usually have a local group make it out there

I'm a big fan the book Advanced Marathoning by Pete Pfitzinger. Has a couple of plans in it with the easiest being 18 weeks with a peak of 55 miles. If you have a marathon or two under your belt and looking to improve your time, I would look this one over.

Have heard good things about pfitzinger. Hanson has big mileage weeks but the longest run in the plan is 16 miles. I’ve been running 6 days a week lately to get ready for training. Hoping I don’t get hurt.
