If I get to bed at a decent time, morning workouts are great and really keep me positive and in a good mental state the rest of the day. I hate knowing I’m going to workout in the evening bc it’s hot AF and I’m rushed so I can finish and help with the kids at night. The worst part is getting out the bed. Once I’m up and sucking down some caffeine, I’m fine. It’s a little more challenging in winter bc it can be around 40 degrees in the garage after a very cold night but those are few and far between. Just takes a little longer to loosen up on those days.

What worked for me as I always preferred afternoon mainly for intensity:
I wake up an hour before gym at 5:00.
Coffee, devotionals, alone with peace and quiet. Open the Reign Storm or Prime energy about 5:45, in gym for 6:00. The first 2-3 weeks was whack with low intensity and me questioning my life choices. Somewhere along the way my brain and body adapted and now I can go full beast mode 6-7 am.
How people can roll out of bed and straight to the gym I’ll never relate to. Can’t do it. Not even with pre.

I’ve been doing my morning workouts the past 3 years so I’m definitely in a rhythm. I wake up at 5 and hit the gym for an hour (just finishing up PPA Pool Season II) and then 20-25 mins sauna. When I leave the gym I feel so freakin good. The thing is by 7am when people are just waking up I just did some really hard shite. The rest of my day will be smooth. My body feels good. My mind feels good. I love it. Plus after work I get to spend with family and don’t feel like I have to leave them to go workout.
I’m in bed asleep by 10pm at the latest. If for whatever reason it’s later than that I skip that early am workout. Sleep is so important to me that I can’t lose an hour and then train hard.

This is the sole reason I switched to mornings. My little girl won’t be little forever.

Same here! I workout in the morning so I can spend the evenings with my wife and daughters. However several times having a teen and a pre-teen in the house has driven me to grab earbuds and go outside to cut the grass (possibly a couple days in a row).

In the complete opposite. If I don’t sweat hard before work, I feel so off and lazy. Not sharp.

I have zero motivation to go after work.

Same, I love the feeling after working out, if I'm traveling or can't for some reason the days just suck. And of course just being done with it early and having time for other things later.

Now that school is back in session, I get up at 4-4:15. I make coffee, then help my wife and kids get their breakfast, lunch, and school bags ready for the day. They leave between 5:15-5:30 to go to school. I leave at the same time and walk to the gym.

What the hell time does school start? If it's a "normal" time, I would seriously reconsider things if I spent 4 hours per day commuting.

Why do these suck so much more than afternoon or evening workouts?

Some of us just aren't morning people, our bodies don't get revved up until afternoon. I've been this way my entire life and it really sucked when I was in college and had to do two-a-days with one at 6am. I never could get used to working out that early. Generally the 6am was just an easy run but my senior year we had a new coach come in from Oregon who couldn't believe we did mile repeats at 3pm in the heat so he made us do those primary, hard workouts at 6am and I had the worst season, performance wise , than even my freshman year.

I absolutely love running early in the morning, around 530am.

Weightlifting is tougher because I'm not as strong as I am later in the day.

wake up at 430 for my daily run

i hate the initial feeling of getting out of bed but when i get outside that changes

nothing beats a good sweat session while 99% are still sleeping

Friday woke up at 4:45, got to my gym right when it opens at 5 except there were a few cars with their lights still on and the gym was pitch dark. Wait a few minutes and bail. Whoever was supposed to open overslept. Went home and crawled back in bed pissed. That’s the worst. Hard enough to wake up that early but at least you get a workout but not that day ?????

I love working out in the morning. Clears my head and gives me an energy boost for the rest of the day. Way to easy for me to talk myself into skipping an afternoon/evening workout, especially if I’ve had a crappy day.

I definitely am “weaker” first thing in the morning, but I’ve just learned that if I don’t get the workout in first thing, life has a way of getting in the way as the day progresses. Part of having a family.

My oldest just left for college and my other son has a busy schedule and drives himself, so my wife and I have been talking about adding in afternoon exercise as well, though. It’s wild having more time on our hands.

I did mornings for a little over a year and began to love it.

My wife then signed up for an Ironman and she just cannot function in the evenings. She took the morning shift, I now go lift at about 8:30-9pm on Tues/Thurs and whenever on Saturdays. It pissed me off at first when she started, she had such a hard time and would not get up.

I am starting to use no pre at night which is a large adjustment, but keeps me from coming home at 10pm and tweaking until 1am.

I've been on a lunch time routine with my boss. We had a shite morning yesterday and he didn't want to work out (odd because he's the more committed one) so we went to lunch instead. He got drawn for jury duty today and tomorrow so I'm coming in at 6 to get my workout in today and tomorrow. We'll see if I like it better.

So far, it's nice that it's off my plate for the day and I do feel a little more awake and focused.
