Daily jog with sprinting in the middle. Second sprint pushing off and there was a very audible pop and my calf went dead. Decent bit of pain. Can’t walk other than small straight legged step.

Got it elevated on ice now (20 minutes post injury).

Any tips? I know this will be several weeks but I don’t want it to linger due to some bad early steps.

Ice and NSAIDS and lay off it until it's healed.

Get it checked. If it popped, you could have fully torn something. Hopefully you did not tear an achilles.

You should make sure you don't have something that requires surgical repair. If you did, none of the rest is gonna do much.

Good luck, hope it's minor.

My BIL tore his calf muscle jumping off something. It curled up around the bottom of the back of his knee. It looks super weird. The orthopedic surgeon said he can have surgery but if he’s not an athlete just leave it be. This was probably 3-4 years ago and he’s fine it just looks like a baby calf.

That sounds severe. Keep us posted. Hope the diagnosis is better than the description.

Happened to my cousin. MRI revealed it as leg aids

I tore my achilles in October, surgery wasn’t that bad. The recovery sucks. You won’t be able to put any weight on it at all for several weeks. I had to use either a knee scooter or an ‘iwalk.’ After that, a walking boot which gets painful because you lose the fat at the bottom of your foot which makes it painful to walk.
The physical therapy isn’t that bad. The inability to do everyday things takes a toll on you. Not fun waking up in the middle of the night hopping to the toilet to take a piss. Look up how to do a thompson test and get it looked at.

I did this. No surgery needed or deformity occurred. Doc said it’s kind of common. Ice, Aleve, about two weeks taking it easy. Good luck.

Going to disagree with you on the ice. That just slows the body’s natural healing process.

Thanks for the thoughts, stories and jokes (had a burger for lunch yesterday so I'm good there).

I'm 99% positive its my calf, not my ach tendon. Inside of my leg calf muscle is extremely tender half way down. I can point my toe (without weight) uncomfortably, but can't go the other way due to both pain and it feels like the calf will be at its stretching limit.

Slept with foot elevated. Will keep the ice up for another day or two to keep swelling down, then switch to heat. Trying to schedule a Doc just to look at it and give me official medical steps to help it heal better.

I am 99% positive it is your Achilles. Your calf is hurting because your Achilles probably rolled to your calf. I ruptured mine 11 years ago and thought the same as you. Doc put me on my stomach, squeezed my calf, MRI that evening, surgery next day. When you hear a pop, it is usually the tendon. Hope that's not true. Recovery sucks. Don't visit a hospital like I did. Go to an orthopedic.

Order some Bioksin calf compression sleeves. Pricey, but much better than the trash being sold at Dicks or Academy.

Thank me later.

$40/pair.

I tore the bottom of my calf just above the achilles playing flag football. Felt like someone hit me hard in the back of the calf.

I walked off with minimial pain but could barely walk the next few days. My left calf now looks like a competitive bodybuilder calf.

Respectfully disagree.

Ice temporarily decreases inflammation in the area. That's good because inflammation can limit repair. When you take the ice off, inflammation will return, and the cycling in and out of blood speeds repair.

The intent isn't to eliminate inflammation totally, but keep it limited so that blood isn't stuck there.

Then why does everyone ever in the history of athletics use cold therapy?

It’s out dated, but for so long thought to be correct. Almost as if it’s tradition.

I’m certainly not an expert myself, and would never claim to be ... but you may find this interesting:
