I’m usually in ok shape but have let myself go these last few months. Now I’m dealing with a visible gut and quite frankly it’s embarrassing. I have a plan to lose some weight but psychologically it’s making me miserable. Any tips on how to deal with this insecurity?

Start small.
Do just one thing today to lessen the belly fat.

-Go for a walk.
-Substitute a zero sugar drink for a sugar one.
-Start tracking what you eat.
-Do 10 pushups
-buy a fitness tracker or smart scale

Embrace it and use it for motivation to get rid of it.

Yeah I'm not sure what OP is looking for

You know it's going to take action to get things trending in the direction you want it to so start taking actions

start lifting weights is how most of us deal with insecurities.

If that's true just use it as motivation. That's what got me going and I don't see how I'll ever let myself get back to where I was. Looking back it's so embarrassing.

Be thankful for that insecurity. It’s the only thing standing between you and the rest of the fat masses that eventually accept or try to beautify being obese.

This reads so many different ways.

Are you miserable because you are fat? Or are you miserable thinking about what it takes to not be fat?

Are you asking how to live with being fat? Or are you asking how to not be fat?

If I'm reading this right, here's my message:

Not wanting to be fat isn't an insecurity, it's a strength. Exercise more, eat a little better, track and get excited about your goals and enjoy the results.

I had a similar epiphany about 7 years ago. Was 155 lbs (yes I'm short), my belt was suddenly squeezing its last notch, and I popped a button off pants I'd worn for years.

Now I'm 185 and that same belt fits me just fine.

This is the exact reason I drag my arse to the gym every day. Looking back at old pictures of me is embarrassing.

Same here. I was starting to get on the chunky side a couple of years ago, lost a ton of weight, but felt like shite. Started exercising more, and the last year or so I've been lifting at least 3x a week. My weight is up, but my pants still fit, and my dress shirts have gotten tighter in the chest/shoulders. Still have some belly fat but I'm almost 43 and don't really care.

I gained 5 pounds after a recent medical procedure. All of it seemed to be around my waistline. I volunteered to walk a dog for an elderly woman with cancer who lives near my church. Two long walks a day helped get rid of the pounds quickly.

When this happens to me, like post holidays huskiness, first short term thing I do is a Intermittent or total fast for 1-3 days to get to feeling less bloated and jump start the next phase.

Minimal:
Cut out sugary drinks
Cut out beer
Cut out processed sugar (as much as possible)
Don’t eat after 8pm
Walk

Later:
Eat more protein
Lift weights

I’m going on the eat less move more diet. I’m going hardcore. Didn’t even eclipse 1k calories yesterday and plan to stay under 1k. Along with walking 30 minutes to an hour. And the usual push ups.
