I’m going to start going to the gym. Add muscle, lose fat. I’m completely out of shape. I’ve got:
Bench press
Push-ups
Squat
Pull ups
Lunges

I dunno how bad out of shape you are, but if you’re older and chonky and haven’t lifted in a while then I’d suggest a dumbbell program for the first month (pick like 4-5 exercises per day) :
1) Push day (Chest/shoulders/triceps): Db press (flat, low incline, OHP) tricep overhead extensions/skullcrushers
2) Pull day: 1arm rows, chest supported rows, deadlifts, hammer curls, alternating arm curls
3) Legs: goblet squats, Bulgarian split squats, RDLs, lunges
4) rest day
Then repeat for a month (5 days out of 7 you’re lifting)
Pick a weight for every exercise you struggle to do 10 reps with, and do 50 total reps. When you can do 5x10 then add weight.
If you have a lot of weight to lose then just getting the motions right and getting moving and being consistent will be the important thing. DBs are safe and give a good range of motion and you’ll see fast results if you get after it.

Check out the Greyskulls thread. Excellent place to start

Shoulder press
I actually prefer shoulder press to bench. Bench always struck me as being an unnatural movement without evolutionary precedent. Meaning it’s not a movement you would ever do much in the natural course of being a human.

As I’ve gotten older and run into back issues and other nagging things from my sports past, I’ve cut way down on the number of exercises and focus on the tried and true to get the most out of my t workout time. I love thrusters. They knock out squats, OH press, and cardio in one exercise if you minimize the rest. Sometimes I’ll do 20 sets of 5 with heavier weight or do 10x10 of lighter weight. Also deadlifts, rowing machine, pull ups, and Bench/push-ups.
