quote:Eh, that's a little circular to me. High quality proteins (and fats) have been demonized (e.g. beef, eggs) and handily replaced with processed garbage that reduces satiety and causes overeating.
But one thing I can promise is carbs and sugar are not to blame for the obesity epidemic. It’s calories overall and lack of protein
For me, I'm basically already carnivore + veggies + some potatoes, so I look to keep that as clean as possible.

while you are over here complaining about MSG being in food
Because I am concerned about the whole picture just not half of it. MSG is used to increase food cravings and irresistibility, so you eat more than you should. Linked to headaches, obesity, depression, and mental disorders. It is also an excitotoxin (excites brain cells to death), which is associated with neurodegenerative diseases.
The things it is found in - Frozen meals, chips, dressings, soups, rice and pasta mixes etc are NOT healthy.
There are ramifications from thinking you are eating healthy when reality is totally different. MSG should not be in anything. It has zero value other than trying to turn you into an addict of unhealthy foods.

I didn’t say they were good for you, I said that they didn’t impede fat loss and didn’t show negative effects on biomarkers
But just like what Dante wrote you take things out of context. And John died from clotting disorder he had since he was a child
And I never said things like cancer was minor, I said focusing on things like removing ever little things while being 25% bf is dumb and majoring in the minors.
Always go for longest hanging fruit and minimum effective dose.

I agree with that. It’s why I always advocate proteins first, no distractions and very slow eating, then veggies for those not tracking

Yea msg is the problem in the US lol

Seems like two different topics in here are being debated as the same topic.
One topic is don’t be fat.
The other topic is don’t eat foods that are bad for you.
They’re not the same.

It’s one of many problems. It conditions people like you to eat stuff that isn’t healthy when you think you are actually eating ‘healthy’. You are addicted and will rationalize it any way possible. Just read this thread as evidence. It serves no purpose. None. Keep sucking back those zero sugar Monsters though.

MSG is not an issue unless you just think food shouldn't taste good. Might as well get rid of hot sauce while we are at it.
Posted on 12/29/23 at 1:57 pm to Dire Wolf
Does your brand of hot sauce have MSG in it? Why not if there is no issue with MSG?
I don’t need MSG to make steaks, ground beef, cheese, eggs, bacon Etc ‘taste good’. That’s the whole issue.

Yeah I’m sure it had nothing to do with the 30 years of androgen and anabolic use. It was ‘genetic’ just like every other bodybuilder that dies right? If I had a dollar for every time I have heard that excuse the last 20 years I’d be a Billionaire. I’m not here to shite on John Meadows he was a super nice genuine guy.

I never said you need MSG to make food taste good just there nothing inherently wrong or unhealthy with seasoning a dish with MSG.
Posted on 12/29/23 at 2:07 pm to Dire Wolf
Again, you don’t need MSG to make sauces, condiments, dressings etc taste good. It is used as an additive to get you hooked on the foods it is in. That’s it. That’s its only actual purpose.

By hooked you mean adds savory flavor.
It’s not addictive

Na bro, we are never supposed to have Cajun food, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, sushi, most French foods, lots of Mexican food, never have deserts etc etc according to many in this thread.

fat frick here. im enjoying this conversation. 777 I think what youre arguing for is the Pareto Principle (80/20 rule). The 20% of things (low protein and too many calories) are causing 80% obesity. You always fix the main thing causing the problems first and then move on to the next smaller thing.

I take it you don’t add salt to tomatoes ever. Gotta avoid getting addicted to food and all.

Have you listened to the podcast? Lustig isn’t very far from what you’ve said. I’m no diet aficionado but he goes into really good detail about everything he mentions. The general gist is to stop buying processed foods and buy single ingredient foods. The podcast is pretty deep and I think you’d enjoy it and maybe learn some stuff you may not already know.
I do like Huberman overall. He doesn’t demonize anyone or anything but seems to stick to facts about the impacts of what you put into your body.
