How to beat the afternoon lull

For the past month or so I have really been struggling from the hours of 1:00pm to 4:00pm each weekday. After lunch I move very slow and feel sleepy. I will drink a cup of coffee, but I never feel like it helps. Any advice on how to get reenergized after lunch?

Skip lunch.

I used to get like that right around 2. Stopped eating super carb heavy lunches and haven’t had any issues since. I used to eat a Mexican quinoa bowl a lot that had ground Turkey, black beans, quinoa, and avocado in it and would almost always get sleepy. Started bringing salads and no issues.

WFH…. Quick 15 nap in my chair
Seriously cut back on carbs and sugar for lunch

Change what you eat for lunch definitely helps
I also think how you schedule your day from a tasks standpoint is important. I love having relational calls or things I can do while on a walk after lunch. Doing that, stretching my legs, getting outside and getting some fresh air / sun is order of magnitude better than if I finish up a meal and then try to dive into an Excel model. I’ll be face down in my keyboard if I do that

More frequent meals, don’t skip them. Caffeine. Train 4-5 days a week and do cardio. You’ll start to feel better

I usually go to the bathroom to rub one out then I climb under my desk and take a 20 minute nap. When I wake up I do a bump a coke and that gets me through the remainder of the day.

Thanks for your input, pastor

I scaled back on the amount of coffee I will have in the morning to just one regular and if I want more I will have decaf, helped a lot.

I have found pushing initial caffeine intake to 1.5-2 hours after waking helps the afternoon lull.

You are eating too much carbs and sugars.

This. I started doing this a couple of months ago and have seen a huge difference. Delay your caffeine intake allowing your cortisol levels to lower before ingesting caffeine.

Get 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

Set an alarm for when you get sleepy as a reminder to take another bronkaid
Remember baw, if it tastes good, spit it out

Nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels

Go for a nice walk outside. Nature brings the energy.

I take a power nap at my desk. But I realize not everyone can do that.
Like others said, it’s most likely what you’re eating.

Besides the obvious culprit (carb heavy lunch), you might want to do a sleep study to check for sleep apnea. At a minimum check a nocturnal continuous pulse ox to look for desaturations.
