re: How fast can you run a mile right now?

I've got a big workload for my Ironman training. Hard to get in speed work. But even with, I'm just slow. I was probably one of the skinniest kids on the baseball team in high school. Was a first team all region second baseman (so not a spaz). But I was without a doubt the slowest person on the team
. After this Ironman training, I plan to get a coach who focusses on running (a guy who lives by me used to be an NCAA running coach and takes on a few people). I just need some structure for a year or so geared at building speed. Want to break 20 minutes for a 5k in a triathlon eventually.

am slow a slow MF'r though. ~7:30 mile is where I'm at right now. It's pretty depressing.
A) that's a great pace. WTF.

Half marathon target for me this weekend is a 9 min pace.
B) it's a good pace. that gets you under 2 hours if you can hold it. i have a lot of trouble not walking or feeling sorry for myself miles 11-13 when i run halfs.
For the amount of time I spend running, it's slow to me. I'm not pretending it's lard arse couch potato slow, but it's not fast by any means for a single mile.
For the half, I've run a couple 2:04's in the last few weeks the day after a 4 hour bike ride with dead legs. Fairly certain I can hold 9:00 for 13.1 miles. But who knows. Humidity might be a factor this weekend. I've run 13.1, but never in an actual race outside of triathlons. This will be the first time I see what I can do.

Probably about 6:10-20 at the moment. Fastest ever was a 16:48 3-Mile coming out of boot camp. That was at 19, and you tend to slow down a bit by 30.
Bench 365
Squat 425
DL 465

last 5k i ran i won my division with a high 24. i wouldn't have got top 3 in any division older than 30-34.
i was the leanest dude in my group (the other dudes were fat, not a compliment to myself) but i had way more muscle than anybody running in the upper divisions. they were all some skinny effers.

You should shoot for the 500lb squat/5 min mile in the same day.

6:40 minute mile. 205 lbs.

Tough to say since Ive only run 2 times in the last 6 months because of a chronic knee issue. I am in really good shape from cycling and swimming and have lost 12 lbs in the last year.....from 165 to 153....and I'm 54 years old.......I would guess in the 5:30 to 5:40 range but that may be fantasy. If I was able to run consistently then for sure under 5:30.

I’m 48. Ran a 5:50 first mile of a 5k last September. Never done just a mile since high school. 185 lbs.

11.5-12 min per mile when I start trying to get into "running". That usually only lasts about 2 weeks before I hate it again. I'm slow and bad at running. I've never tried to run a mile for speed since I was in 5th grade...I'm betting I could pull an 8 and change right now at best, and then I'd probably die.

I used to be 5:40ish in high school, but 10 years of beer later I run around a 7:30 now.

I ran a 5:55 mile at 220lbs, 24yrs old, when I was in the fire academy. At the time I had given up high intensity weight training and was training for a marathon. I never made the full but did manage a half.
On the 5:55 day we were running in groups and I "won" my group with my best friend running a 5:57....that was the last day I ever beat him lol.
Btw I Currently have a recovering patella repair I left knee. So 1 MPH is probably legit lol

In the fall, the fastest was 6:10.

Practiced running a fast mile today for the first time actually.
8:10 was my fastest time. I think I could have clocked a sub-8 time easily if I really tried. Was kind of scared to push myself too hard though.

Never timed just 1 mile. Fastest mile in a 5k last year was around 6:40
So I could probably get a 6:30 or better for just 1

We talking just one mile?
If I were to try to run now, I'd get a sub 8 minute mile. Couldn't sustain it for miles. Past 50 now and faster times are becoming rare.
Amazing I could sprint a 50 second 400 meter run in high school, but I couldn't run a 400 m run in double that time now.
I am about 20 pounds heavier than those days, which has something to do with that, I'm sure.
