well said. The number of times I've done a work out or made a meal without motivation greatly exceeds the number of times I've done either one with motivation.

I want live to an old age, be able to do fun things when I’m not in my 20s anymore and I want to be able to protect my family. I walk around all the time and see parents who are fat, out of shape, can’t even walk without breathing heavy. Easy targets. I’m not trying to sound like some tough guy, because I’m not. But if you are threat to my family, pack your lunch. We gonna be here a while.
This x 100
The ultimate reason is because I don’t want to be bed ridden when I’m in my 60’s and 70’s. My Grandfather is 76 and he plays golf 3 days a week. That’s what I’d like to do if our generation ever gets to retire.
Additionally I’m in my mid 20’s and its crazy to see how many people I went to grade school with that are fat and out of shape and we haven’t even had our 10 year reunion yet. When me and my GF are in our 40’s I’d like us to still be able to go to the beach and look great in a swimsuit

I don't want to be fat

Read through the entire thread so far and I think I'm the first to say this....looking slim, trim, and fit is a good benefit but primarily I exercise to FEEL BETTER, especially as I age. When I'm consistently exercising I feel better physically and mentally, sleep better, eat a little better, focus better, and even sex better, although I'm married so that is what it is.
Frankly I'm just a better man all the way around when I stay active and exercise at least several times a week.

I want women to think I look good naked. The dad bod movement is a fallacy. Only 4s like dad bods.

We are in Helen Georgia this week, I saw a lot of motivation.... morbid obesity is beyond epidemic.

I have specific goals that can be measured, not to be a dick but "feeling good enough to take a shirt off" is pretty subjective. Things like increasing your 400 m sprint or how much you can squat or attaining a certain body fat %. But once u get there remember how hard it was and don't back slide.
But bottom line is I am addicted to the feeling from HIIT workouts and lifting heavy. While is sucks while doing them its a great feeling when you're done.
You just have to want it like you want anything else.

This is the best advice so far. If you need motivation to reach your goals, you're already setting yourself up for failure. Discipline > Motivation.
Johnny Pain always says its about setting up habits. 21 days is all it takes to make something a habit. 3 weeks, that's it. Stay consistent, keep yourself accountable, and make it to where you feel like an a-hole if you stray.

Go find a bariatric in the historical that’s receiving PT. You’ll quickly realize how much you don’t wanna be that fat frick, especially later in life when arthritis hits AND you’re a fat bastard.
As far as eating goes. Ditch diet fads. Too easy to break. Gotta treat food as a lifestyle change for good. Wean yourself off processed food but you don’t gotta drop it all. That’s the mistake people make. You can have a nice treat everyday as long as you aren’t downing over the serving size and are eating well a majority of the day.
Me? I’m trying to gain weight. So I track my shite. I fall off the wagon I don’t. But that’s more about not eating enough if I don’t track to gain muscle.
Motion is lotion. Humans are built to move. Exercise should make you feel good. It’s good for you. Try a hobby. Cycling. Hiking. Etc. Something you’ll chomp at the bit to do.

I like to look at the progress I’ve made. Every time I feel like giving up or need a little extra motivation I look at how far I’ve come... and not necessarily on the scale. I look in the health app and see that since November I have lowered my resting heart rate from 81 to 68. I’ve lowered my cholesterol from 295 (yes I realize how bad that is) to 213 just from exercising and diet, no medication. My fasting blood sugar has gone from 102 to 93. My waist circumference has gone down 8 inches. None of those numbers are where I want them to be, BUT knowing that I have already accomplished so much gives me motivation to know I can do more.

I like to mix it up between high intensity and more laid back exercise. For 40+ years since birth, I feel like I've gradually improved in most areas related to fitness. However, I think the inevitable is upon me and I'm starting the decline (like that Ricky Gervais stand-up bit).
I think that I'll always be motivated to stay active if healthy. Therefore, I'm focusing on the little things necessary to stay healthy while also starting to dial down activities that may not be the best for an aging body. Ideally, I would be able to play sports like basketball, tennis, and volleyball for 25+ more years while also being able to lift weights and HIIT - even if I'm not as proficient at those areas within each upcoming year.

This. I’ll never be fat and I enjoy looking good naked.

It really is crazy. Had our 10 year reunion not long ago, so many that just really let themselves go. But I guess that what happens to a lot of people once they are married and have kids, they get comfortable and then stress on top. I can understand it being really difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I'm kind of in the same rut exercise wise. Some days I can put in an hour on the treadmill and another hour on the elliptical. I'm over it
