Really want to make a home gym in my garage. Anyone have one and can share some pics or tips. Was thinking of getting these PowerBlock Elite Dumbbells and an adjustable bench (need suggestions). Maybe a squat rack if I can find a good deal.

I don't really have any experience with building a homegym, but I know r/homegym on Reddit has a lot of great information.

Unless you're really against a rack and barbell work, that would be my #1 purchase and I'd invest in a solid one.

Use horse stall mats for flooring. You can usually get decent deals on used plates if you hunt around. I'd go cheap on plates.

A rack, adjustable bench and enough plates will let you do everything you really need to do.

You can save $ and space with a squat stand instead of power rack if the features don't matter to you.

Those are the basics, and you can customize from there. I don't have DB's bc I do mostly power work, but a friend has the power block and theybwork for him.

Power blocks, a solid adjustable bench and a squat rack is all you really need. The expense will come with the weights. Especially if you want bumper plates. If you are handy at all, you can build a squat rack.

Here is my home gym

My advice to buy in order

1) gymnastics rings- allows you to start working out immediately

2) power cage, bar, weights and a bench

3) pull up bar if cage doesn't have one

4) adjustable dumbbells, either iron master or powerblocks. I prefer PB

5) prowler sled, cheap trx straps to use to do exercises on the sled/ thick climbing rope for sled pulls

6) heavy sandbags

7) couple kbs

8) weighted vest

9) dip bars

10) rogue echo

11) c2 rower

12) used last pull down machine preferably with low row

13) adjustable bench

14) GHD

15) landmine

16) specialty bars

17) bands

18) chains

19) reverse hyper

20) sorinex hurricane used

A quality powercage is the center of any good home gym. Get stall mats from tractor supply on black Friday for flooring

Power blocks are the way to go. I don't have them but jeff cavalier swears by them. he actually made his own version.

But a full rack of DBs would cost about $3,200. Or Power Blocks for $300. Easy choice IMO

We also jury-rigged a cable system on our power cage using some pulleys and brackets and metal cord from home depot. It's not as nice as a lat machine, but it's serviceable if you are tight on space. When buying plates, we just bought two 45 lb bumper plates and went cheap on all of the rest. The other plates will be smaller than the bumper plates, so you can do your deads without wrecking your floor.

I bought the Titan X3 and some crap CAP plates and bar. The X3 didn't have a instruction manual, but you'd have to be a dumbass to not figure it out. I have an impact wrench that sped the process up. Im not a huge guy and don't need crazy weight loads. Black Friday got me the barbell and weights for half off(?) I believe....it was a great deal that was posted somewhere on this board. Crappy Amazon bench, no incline right now.

Also have a 50lbs slamball that will kick my arse...I need to get back into it.

Horse stall mats with some plywood for a platform. I did a combo of these... LINK.... LINK. Easy.

It is extremely convenient to have. ~$900 for everything, weights, bar, mat, other crap, including shipping.

Can you use it on concrete? I'm semi-interested in a heavy slamball, but most of my rubber area is taken.

Do you think it's good for explosiveness and/or conditioning?

I do use it on the driveway. I mainly go into a squat and drive it up, throwing it embarrassingly not high...also is tough on a chest carry down the road. It can kick your but in ways a rack cannot. Very fun.

Check out the AB-3100 from Rep Fitness. It's a beast and for under 200 bucks you can't beat it. I bought version 1 back in 2017 and it's holding up great.

I have a 200, 250 and 300 LB sandbag, and they're great for carries and cleans.

I do like the real world stuff, which is why I'm interested in maybe being able to throw stuff more explosively. I've done a few side tosses with my sandbags, and they kick my butt.

Last year during Black Friday I bought:
Titan rack
Rogue plates
rogue Ohio bar
Titan DL Platform

Then I was able to pick up locally:
Powerblocks up to 125
And rogue competition bumpers

I have KB and sandbags and all that. Rower, airbike, GHD.

Look around for good used stuff.
I mostly use my bumpers, barbell, Titan bench (which I will upgrade soon, cause it’s a piece of shite), and dumbbells. Other thing I use a lot is bands (way more than I thought I would)

I've got over 1000 lbs. of Olympic style weights with the range being 45#, 35#, 25#, 15#, 10#, 5# and 2.5# plates.

Two 45# Olympic bars, 2 curl bars, a dumbbell tower with weights from 5# up to 35# in pairs. I also have a cable style machine that allows for standing, seated and lying down motions and it also has a rack for using with the bench for bench presses and is set up to work squats off it.

Two benches, one equipped with a Preacher Curl Station and attachments for leg curls and extensions and one just for basic work with no attachments.

I also have a 100# heavy bag and a couple speed bags to change out on my speed bag platform. The larger speed bag for regular work and the very small speed bag for quick work. Plus the necessary gloves and wraps to protect the hands, especially on the heavy bag.
