Cox vs AT&T Fiber in NOLA
Posted by Nighthawk504 on 6/25/25 at 12:29 pm
Just got informed that AT&T Fiber is now being offered in my neighborhood in NOLA. Currently paying $86 for cox internet only as we stream everything. Is it worth switching to AT&T? Anyone know the ball park price for AT&T?
Cox Internet Issues in NOLA
Posted by Nighthawk504 on 1/9/25 at 10:37 am
TVs constantly losing WiFi when streaming movies and shows. TV closest to the modem disconnects the most (15 ft away). Did a speed test and the results are the following:
- Ping = 11 ms
- Jitter = 3 ms
- Download = 540 Mbps
- Upload = 39.5 Mbps
I have COX internet for reference and use the original modem that came when they installed the service.
Do I need to: upgrade my equipment or install a mesh system?
Any advice is appreciated because it is making watching anything almost unbearable at this point.

Maxing out Roth IRA & Roth 401K
Posted by Nighthawk504 on 11/4/24 at 2:53 pm
I maxed out my Roth IRA ($7,000) already this year and wanted to continue to invest towards retirement. My work offers a 401K & Roth 401K. Can I also contribute to the Roth 401K or is the $7,000 the limit for all Roth accounts? Does it make more sense to contribute to the traditional 401K? Any advice.

Wife & I are planning on starting a family soon. Wife works 1099 at an hourly rate and is on my health insurance plan through my employer. What kind of options do we have for her during her maternity leave period. Is short-term disability an option, should we just start a separate savings account and build up a nest egg. Any advice...

Pointless seems like a perfect word. No plot twist, just exactly what I thought it would be. Boring...

Looking online at brands like Patagonia, Marmot, OR, REI, North Face, etc... Read a ton of reviews and it appears that none actually keep you dry. Anyone have a go to that actually keeps you dry, but can be packed in a backpack when its dry.

I've used this bag traveling Europe many of times. Fits clothes and computers. If you are bringing a carry-on suit case this offers some extra room for about 3-4 outfits. Love it. Amazon Bag

Samsung won't turn on after Power Surge
Posted by Nighthawk504 on 2/17/23 at 8:06 am
There was a Lightning Strike (accordingly to Entergy alert) in my area that knocked out the power to my home for a few hours. Seems to have ruined my Samsung TV and Sound bar plugged into the same outlet. TV won't turn on anymore, anyone have any luck getting a TV repaired. TV is 2 years old and was $1700, so having a little trouble with the idea of putting it out by the curb. Any suggestions?
Also the Samsung soundbar wont turn on but my sub woofer was not affected. Can't seem to find a way to just purchase a new bar without the sub woofer combo.

Smart Outlet Won't Connect
Posted by Nighthawk504 on 1/17/23 at 6:47 am
I've got these smart outlets that worked at my old house but don't seem to work with my new router setup. Looks like the router frequency is 5 GHz and the outlets need 2.4 GHz. Is there an easy fix because everything else works fine on 5 GHz?

Multiple Savings Accounts?
Posted by Nighthawk504 on 3/8/22 at 8:43 pm
Wife & I would like to put a little bit of money from each pay check towards a few categories: vacation fund, camp or rental property, future kids. What would be my best option to do this. Wife has a spending problem so the best option would be something that is "out of site out of mind", where she can never really see it in her checking account. Any advice helps.

Are Bi-Weekly Mortgage Payments a Good Idea?
Posted by Nighthawk504 on 10/8/21 at 7:07 pm
Trying to decided whether it's a good idea to do bi-weekly payments or just do monthly payments. I've also heard that paying more than the monthly payment goes straight to principal. Any advice helps.
