Get out of here. The whole point is everyone is seeking ways to avoid being on medication. "Suck it up". Sure, that works great, until it doesn't. You have not experienced real anxiety or panic attacks or you would have a different attitude. It's not just something you can tell to "go away".

A gentle Yoga class is wonderful for the mind-body connection, especially learning the breath work.

That guy is a piece of shite. His whole attitude is why men have such a high rate of depression and suicide. He likes to call others fragile, but I bet if we met at Sonic he'd come out as the more fragile one.

Clonazepam 2mg BID. If you have panic disorder with it like I do it’s almost impossible to live functionally without benzos even though they say you should not take them daily for long periods.

Last time I checked, this is the health and fitness forum. That should include mental health and fitness as well, and your proposition is not a healthy mindset for those struggling with mental health.

This person has come to us with a legitimate mental health issue and your respons is to callously brush him off - this isn't what this board is about.

Two months ago I was diagnosed with this by my doctor. I currently see a therapist once every two weeks. I don't quite understand how it helps but it does, as I can see improvement in my mental state from where I used to be. I also take magnesium supplements which I find help.

My Dr said I had this about 1.5 years ago. I take 10mg Lexapro and exercise/work out about five days per week. I feel much, much better now. I never worked out prior to that and part of it was because I was always too nervous/scared to work out around other people. Now I have confidence in myself to do anything and everything in the gym. I also sleep much better, which is also important when dealing with GAD.

*Before going to my doctor, I was starting to get panic attacks and worrying nonstop every minute I was awake. It was taking a toll and I finally had enough. Glad I got some help because no one should be miserable all day, especially when you have no idea why (like I was).

Dear God when did so many men become fragile
when we had to conform to society and not behave like men. For instance, in the beginning of time I could just get up and beat you to death instead of having a panic attack. That is now frowned upon so I have to find other ways because the chemical release has to be dealt with You on the other hand have had no problem adapting to the constraints of society Betas have it easier.

I am 50 and have dealt w anxiety dice Kindergarten, Some periods of life s rapid chsnge are harder. Then I go years w no problem. The things I have found most helpful.

1. Learn about the physiology. It helped me manage attacks
2. No alcohol.
3. Rest and hydrate
4. Learn new things
5. Exercise
6. Be open about your issues. Removing the worry of people thinking less of you was helpful fir me.
7. If all else fails put a Xanax in your pocket

Hell, you can't find a doc that will prescribe one where I'm at.

i ask for 10-15 of em per year. Then I bring em the left overs. I take about 6-7 per year. If you have managed anxiety as long as me you recognize there are a few times a year when it is more severe and you have something on tap to do that is too important to screw up. I will pop one about 45 minutes prior and it helps.

Men have always dealt with anxiety. There's countless stories from even back in the early 20th century of farmers and businessmen going "cuckoo" or "crazy" whether due to financial, family, or other stressors. Happened all the time. Back then they just stayed hermits at home or were put into a ward with no help outside. Now they get help and continue to live their lives and many times actually get over it.

Mary Cunningham with Baton Rouge Counseling is who I see. I find her easy to talk to and so far she hasn’t done me wrong the only caveat is that she cannot prescribe medication. Her hours though are fantastic she usually works until 6pm most days so It never interferes with my work schedule.

That's my situation almost to a T. I know when mine is the worst, and just need a little extra to get me thru. About ready to try the secondary market.

It’s tough man. 39 and hit me out of nowhere last year

I’ve been able to work on breathing exercises. For me, an occasional 2mg Valium does wonders. Has a long half life so I don’t feel the need to pop one all the time. I do 2-3 a week.

My anxiety has been worse recently of course causing an increase in depression. I do take antidepressants but it’s still pretty bad even with them. I don’t want to up the meds though. I recently got into working out regularly and I feel like it helps a lot. I work out in the mornings before work and it gives me more energy and makes me just feel better. I have noticed that also having a routine has helped my anxiety. If I skip a morning, it messes up my routine, ruins my day, and just makes my anxiety/depression worse.

My suggestion? Find a hobby and stick with it. Routine. Exercise. Eat healthy.
