Any MDs have opinions on this technique. I’m reading a book right now about fasting written by a nephrologist. He states he puts all his DM type II patients on fasting diets and they have incredible results.

Any significant health risks to doing this for healthy individuals?

Most doctors have no clue about fasting diets. Hell, most doctors don't know jack shite about nutrition.

Fasting for 72 hours while drinking your own piss then following a ketogenic WOE will make your dick grow 3" while you simultaneously lose all of your weight and squat 600lb

OP, trolling side, there are many potential health benefits from fasting, not to mention weight loss due to the obvious caloric restriction.

It makes sense from an evolutionary perspective. Our ancestors likely had to go extended periods of time with little to no food. Days, weeks. It would be biologically stupid for fasting to be harmful to it long term health.

I do 16 hr fast/ 8 feeding window, also referred to as time restricted eating. Watch Dr Rhonda Patrick on Joe Rogan and also Dr Peter Atia on Joe Rogan. Atia is a longevity doctor and Patrick is a wellness doctor extraordinaire. It gives me way better endurance, I’m a triathlete, and more energy all around. Plus it’s good to only have your insides workin for only 8 hours instead of 16-18 hours/day.

Layne Norton always says “Would you go see a nutritionist when you are sick?” “Then why the F are asking your medical doctor about nutrition advice?”

My GP is cool as shite and told me one time don’t ever take nutritional advice from him. He said he eats Taco Bell 3x a week for lunch and drinks whiskey every night. Lol

The medical industry(including doctors) are so tied in with the Pharmaceutical Industry that I don’t think they’re educated on nutrition or any form of treatment outside of take this pill, take this shot, have this surgery, etc. Don’t get me wrong, if I get Cancer I’m going to MD Anderson, not a wholistic healer, but when it comes to nutrition and mental health I no faith in the current American Medical Industry whatsoever.

Not to derail this thread too much because I am also on the time restricted feeding train. But even when it comes to cancer treatment, diet and lifestyle factors are extremely important. I don’t know if MD Anderson is completely tuned in to metabolic treatments, diet, and fasts to compliment the standard of care. At least they weren’t in 2012-2014 but maybe they have progressed since then. I’m not saying to refuse typical standard of care treatments either, I would not. But you better believe that I would also eat only within a 4 hour window every day, would limit carbs and protein via a ketogenic diet, would fast leading up to chemo rounds, would take ketone salts/esters to keep insulin suppressed, would start yoga/meditation, would request an oncologist who would consider a metabolic treatment, would start hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and increase detoxification through infrared sauna.

Not MD Anderson, but my FIL went to UCLA and they recommended he went strict Keto as an addition to his more traditional cancer treatment.

I agree, but let's think of it from their side for a second. They are medical professionals, and they try to use proven science and have standards that they go by for care reccomendations. I agree with you, as many doctors do, I'm sure, but I can also understand why they wouldn't reccomend it in a clinical setting until there are more concrete results on its impact.

Sure, I get it. I am not trying to trash doctors on here, just pointing out that it takes a while for diet related treatments/accessories to treatments take a while to percolate through to the standard of care. I get that they are big on evidenced based, so they need concrete studies in order to recommend it to patients. I also know that it takes a while for these to be approved, carried out, published, and then relied upon. Luckily, I think there are active studies testing this very thing according to one of Peter Attia’s podcasts.

So, I haven’t checked out MB’s new book, but how would you address utilizing time restricted feeding with an early morning workout when trying to get stronger? My only work out time is 5:00 AM - 6:00 AM before the kids get up and prior to work. Thanks in advance. I do it, but I’m sure there is a better way to prevent post workout catabolism.

If I'm dying early, I'm definitely eating something better than Taco Bell.
