No, I'm not talking about those training masks.

With hopes gyms will be allowed to reopen on 5/15, I started looking into what sort of face coverings/masks would be comfortable and conducive to working out.

Not expecting N95 efficiency, but just a cloth covering to block airborne droplets when I talk, cough, or breathe. I know some of you may laugh at me, but I want to do what I can to follow the guidelines while trying to resume a bit of normalcy. So, yes, I wear a mask to the store, etc, and would like to find one I can wear to the gym. One that will stay in place, will be breathable, and won't just get saturated with sweat.

Anyone looked into this or have any thoughts/recommendations? Thanks in advance!

No one should laugh at you for trying to be a decent human whether they agree with the policies or not.

Honestly, if you can find an old drift that you don’t mind cutting up that may work best? Maybe they even sell them online?

That mask / face covering is doing nothing but giving you the feeling of “helping.”

About a month ago I bought a pack of cheap wide headbands like the ones CrossFit people wear and football players wear under their helmets. I just noticed that they’re being advertised as headband/face masks now. That might be an option and then when you pandemic is over you’ll have a good sweatband.

What about those things that fishermen wear around their faces?

And allowing him in the door of the gym which will most certainly require them.

Unfortunately, you will be required to enter the gym more than likely. Also unfortunately if you look at the micron size of the particles of viruses, even n95 doesn't do a very good job and really needs to be a half or full face with minimum p100 hepa filtration to really do anything. That is not going to be possible for 95% of people.

Now to answer your question, the best would prolly be the fishing facemask or something of similar material. Will wick sweat away and will allow you breath. The breathing issue is going to be a much bigger deal than you realize.

I have some cloth ones I use for woodworking that have a replaceable filter. I got them from amazon, so not sure if you can even find them right now.

I've tried explaining this to people with no success. Science be damned, we need masks  ...

People are emotional, run into the same thing in fitness and nutrition. They want to feel better.

Unfortunately governments understand people want them to do something to make them feel better so they come up with rules like this.

They’d be impossible to work out in because they slide down, and would probably do more so when soaked with sweat.

But it is what I have been using when masks are required other places.

My gym emailed us and said they were opening back up today and no masks were required.

Spreading droplets can be prevented by wearing a mask, whether n95 or not. The idea is to stop the droplets from leaving the mouth. It actually helps a lot.

The virus is air born, hence the whole social distance 6ft idea, you mask isn't doing shite to prevent that. But he if it makes you feel better, wear it.

If I see someone wearing a mask in the gym, I might lose it.

Thats just simply not true according to every study I've seen on the subject. Not sure why this is even debated. But, I do not want to turn fitness board into the OT so I will stop pushing the issue...
