If so, what do you do? My flexibility is shite. Partly due to neglect, partly die to scar tissue.

I used to stretch exclusively but found that foam rolling was really my X factor. I foam roll my calves, hamstrings, glutes, quads, IT bands, and chest/lower back and follow it up by stretching each muscle group and my muscles feel so much healthier and more limber compared to exclusively stretching

I do on chest and shoulder days. I stretch my shoulders for about 5 minutes.

I've been doing yoga at least once a week since the spring. It helps.

Foam rolling your IT band is useless. I used to do it all the time but found out you can’t generate enough force to get any fascial release. Won’t hurt you but doesn’t really do anything. I still roll out my quads, hips, butt, hammies, and back/shoulder and calves. Makes a huge difference. Stretching has become increasingly important the older I get. Can’t just hop out of bed and get after it with hardly any warm up anymore.

You don’t feel IT band release doing this? I feel like it works pretty well

It always seems like it’s working to some extent but I’ve read from numerous articles that it doesn’t. Like I said, it’s not harmful, just doesn’t do what I thought. shite if it makes you feel better, keep doing it.

I do an active mobility warm up for shoulders and legs before each lift session. If I am tight I will jump on the rumble roller but that is rare.

I stretch and do mobility on off days.

I track all of this and set 12 week goals and work towards those.i do not stretch before lifting as it is not good to do so.

Same

I also stretch my chest, shoulders, and thoracic spine every day because i have a slouch from sitting in front of computers my whole life. Stretching and lightly activating those muscles with bands helps correct my posture before working out.

I've had great success doing the DeFranco Agile 8 (T-Nation Link) instead of traditional stretching.

You are only partially correct. There is no actual stretching of the muscle or tissue but it does tell your brain to release the muscle from being tight. It's only temporary though.

I have the shoulder mobility of a fossil. I try to do some shoulder stretches before every workout.

I should stretch every day.

I'm about to integrate some simple yoga back into my weekly routine. Did some this weekend after pitching about 400 innings of coach pitch ball. My back and shoulders and lats were in a knot. After 10 minutes of basic yoga stretches and rolling on the lacrosse ball I felt much better.

YouTube: yoga for cyclists, yoga for runners, yoga for swimmers. They’re not really orthodox yoga, they’re really just a practical stretching flow and routine. Worse case you’ll find 4-5 specific stretches within the routine that you’ll stick to using when you only have 2-3 min instead the 15-20min the video lasts.

Stretching is extremely important. Flexibility is not.

I personally believe the exact opposite. Stretching reduces performance amongst other things. Flexibility/Mobility allows you to be injury free and to do movements without impingements.
