I disagree. There are a variety of studies showing you can create greater intrabdominal pressure with a belt than without.

This means your core will always be able to withstand greater load with a belt than without. If your focus is just to exercise, this may not matter. If you care about maxing, it will.

There's a corrolary, that a belt matters most for people who have core strength as a limiting factor. If grip is your limiting factor, a belt may not matter. If core is a limiting factor, belt will matter very much.

I’ve already said if you are pulling big numbers for one or two rep max then ya a belt makes sense

But most people are not pulling 4 plus plates on each side

Pulled a muscle doing 5x5 DL today, 2nd to last DL

Clearly I need to brace better under fatigue. Weight felt fine

That's the thing about deadlifts. I get hurt less with singles and doubles because I can lock in.

Higher reps wreck me on the last few.

I agree. That said, I've also pulled a muscle in my back before just picking up my laptop bag from the floor ... shite happens. Heat, ice, stretching, and rest and I'll be right in a few days, should be ready to deadlift again next week.

The main reason I hate deads is lift #1. If I got the bar at the top, I would hate them 80% less.

I switched from barbell to trap bar and havent looked back. Sure there’s a little more quad emphasis with the trap bar, but it suits my mechanics so much better.

Yes. Absolutely. I tore my bicep(complete tear) last Feb and as soon as I was cleared I was pulling again. Deads help every lift get better.

couldn't agree more. I haven't gone over 5 reps in probably 3 years bc I lose focus and my form will fail at higher reps

The death rate among deadlifters remains at 100%.

These are inconvenient truths.

hell no, i pulled my back out few years ago and it was no bueno, from then on i do no more than 175, all form for me, same for squats

i see way too many young kids in their early 20s with 4+ plates per side and cringe when they bring it up

I find it pretty fascinating the low number of (heavier) reps needed to activate the CNS.

Why 175? No disrespect, but I never really understand artificial weight limits.

Just because you sustained an injury, it doesn’t mean you have to stop. Injuries are part of the process (barring severe, debilitating injuries).

I did 340 the other night, and one of my gym bros said he definitely sees me getting stronger. Feelsgood.
