Day 27 no alcohol, day 22 of 16:8 fasting

Nothing crazy with the fasting. I try to limit my calories to around 2000-ish per day. No sweets, limited bread.
I’m down 10 pounds. Feel good. Mentally, I have not felt this alert and clear headed in a long time. And my poops are regular and firm for the first time in ages. I could possibly do this for months.

I'm about to stop drinking, too.
Problem for me is our group of friends always invites us to bars and parties and I say frick it and get smashed.
I'd be at my goal weight if I could stop drinking for a month.

I'd probably be down to 170 pounds at 5'11" if I did it. My wife would hate it. She likes me to be between 180 and 185. Says I'm too skinny when I really focus on not drinking and eating clean.
I mean, I'm going to be 42 next month so I'm in better shape than 95% of the dudes my age.

First off that’s awesome. Congrats man.
When people on here say quit drinking? How often are people drinking? We talking a couple times a week? Or do you mean more nights than not?

What do you drink?
Start with beer and end with Bourbon.

I’ve stopped drinking beer since New Year’s and I’m already down five pounds with very little diet change. And I already was not overweight. Beer is horrible for you. Though I do miss it.

I haven’t had a beer since October. I had given up bourbon during the week when I was losing weight but now I’ll have 1-2 a couple nights a week and maybe more on the weekend. Just cutting out the beer and mixers for my whisky has helped a ton.

Alcohol hasn’t done anyone any favors.

Yep. Redoing my house as we speak. It gets in the way. I stopped recently to get shite done.

Good job, keep it up.
Did you quit drinking just for health effects?
As of Jan 1 I was a daily drinker. Now I'm not drinking on work nights. Only 2 or 3 beers on weekend nights. I need to cut the two or three out but I feel like it's an award I get excited about. I feel like I'm aging in reverse.
Nobody has ever told me that I have a drinking problem but I don't like having a habit I can't kick. It bugs me that I do it so i need to quit.

Hunting season is over so I’ll be slowing down my consumption

Since 2020, I've been drinking a drink+ a night. Mixed drinks. Kind of scary how many bottles of vodka I've plowed through. Its started to feel like more than a habit lately. Feels like a good time to quit.

I was drinking mostly every day, usually gin and tonic or whiskey. Nothing too caloric, but when you consider that a shot of bourbon has about 90 calories, it adds up quickly. And your body metabolizes alcohol differently than food. As long as alcohol is present, it gets burned for fuel. Which means that if you are drinking you are not burning fat.
I just decided after Christmas that I did not want to be in declining health any longer. I am 56. I need to be prolonging my life, not shortening it. And I can tell you that I have never felt more alert and focused mentally, which I attribute to alcohol cessation.

Wife and I knock out a bottle of red wine almost every night. Need to cut back.
