Longtime lurker of the h&f board. Just wanted to get my goal out of my head and at least on the site for some accountability. I’d say I’m an intermediate lifter. I’ve been running 5/3/1 BBB “seriously” for about a year and a half. Did it for 8 months with great success. Then took about 7 months off (divorce, summer, new job, lazy arse POS excuses) and I’ve been back at it since Christmas. Today I hit a PR on bench and took 325 really clean. Quality rep and felt I had more on the table. I’m on a quest for 405. That’s a personal goal. Bucket list kinda lift for me. Just wanted to get that said into the universe so others know it and I can chase it. Y’all keep lifting and I’ll do the same.

6’2 275lb 31 years old for reference.

Hey I appreciate that! It felt good and I had good bar speed. I don’t know if it’s good or bad that I’m not satisfied with that. I think it’s knowing I haven’t been training the way I should and dedicating myself to being more serious. 405 is the big one I’m chasing. There just aren’t that many people you see hitting that number and I wanna be one of those people.

Keep working at it and I think you’ll definitely get there, and probably soon. You’re already a big ol dude and age is still on your side so if ya stay on it it’s gonna be a matter of when, not if.

Not being satisfied is natural and motivating ha. I was positive when I hit my 315 goal I’d be happy to just maintain that strength. Nope. I hit it and immediately, like you, was thinking “I can do more”. It’s just fun to challenge yourself.

Just don’t rush it. A bad injury setback can be detrimental. Once you’re lifting in those upper 200’s and 300’s regularly it’s much less forgiving.

Yea for sure! Thanks for the comment. I’m working at it and trying not to “ego lift”. Hitting 315 a few weeks ago was nice, but like you said as soon as I hit it, I knew there was room to get more. I’m just having fun and meeting my goals. I need to drop some fat. With this new focus to try to get to 405 I’m cleaning the diet up as well. I don’t care if I’m still 260-270 I just don’t want to looks sloppy. It’s a “loose” goal, but I just wanna look like a dude that lifts.

I’m still training. Just haven’t been posting. I’m on a deload week and just finished my last block. Next week I start a block periodization in preparation for a strongman show in August. I’m going to run a 5 week hypertrophy block. Lots of volume. Going to try to really push for muscular fatigue. Lots of technical work on the strongman implements. There are a couple movements I’m not used to, so I’m going to use this time to get them down.

For those of you care to know what the events are:
-Car deadlift - AMRAP in 60 seconds
-Single rep max effort squat on a yoke starting from the bottom of the lift
-Sandbag clean and press away for 60 seconds
-Sandbag over bar AMRAP 60 seconds
-25 foot yoke walk down and back to a log clean and press AMRAP in 60 seconds

Oh let’s see what was yesterday. Back day. Deadlifts have just not been great for me recently.

178#

Deadlifts
275 x 7 x 3

Pretty much all I did that was useful. Working out is dumb.
