I'm thinking about joining pf and I've read some good and bad things about them.
What is your opinion?

I've never been a member but I've been maybe three or so times. They appeal to basic beginners. No racks, barbells, etc. Only smith machines. The dumbbells don't go that high either, if I remember right.
Unless you just do cardio and machines, not the best gym.

I heard you set off the Lunk alarm all 3 or so times you went

It is what it is, a beginner gym.
As long as you keep your expectations low and realize that it's a gym tailored towards people who aren't trying to get yolked then it's not so bad.
It's great for cardio. They do have some dumb rules and the pizza/bagels/tootsie rolls are idiotic but for what you pay you get access to good quality equipment.

They are great for basic fitness. If you want to get JACKED, you will need another gym.

I am actually a member as with 3 kids sometimes I just need to go at lunch and knock it out.
If you want to get strong and are seeking mostly performance, need to find somewhere else. For bodybuilding it can work if you do something like Vince gioronda's workouts.
For general fitness it's fine. You can do dumbbell work up to 70lbs, cables and machine work. I mean any place you can do dips, weighted pushups, chins, DB press and sissy squats can allow you to get a damn good workout in.
It's not the best but it's fine for what most people are looking for.

It was laden with sarcasm.

It depends on a couple things, like how much you know and what your goals are.
Since no one knows those things about you the best advice is to go gym shopping. Go look at several and pick the one that looks best suited for what you want to achieve. The people that go to that gym are part of the package, which can be a big advantage or hindrance. I've skipped the nice, new gyms for what seemed like lesser gyms because the fancy gym only had one squat rack

Cardio machines, space for burpees, lunges, push-ups, and the cable machines. That's plenty for $10

I was a member for a few months. I got the $20 membership so I could get all the extra stuff. I would tan and stuff every once in a while.
PF gets a bad rap from the muscle guys. I've never once seen pizza or any of that there (not saying they don't have it, but even when they do you aren't forced to eat it).
Like others have said, if you are just looking to get in some solid cardio and work outs, you can't beat it for the price. Plenty of room, plenty of equipment. Ive done that and Snap, and I much prefer PF.

I left PF bc they never replaced broken down equipment.

I've never been, but from what I've heard any serious lifter should stay away from that place. They basically insult lifters in their commercials, and go out of their way to discourage any kind of serious weight training.
I mean, I'd rather be like Speed Bag Kicker Guy (Youtube) than watching TV for an hour while slowly walking on the treadmill.

Aww...can't show off with big drops.

For $10/month, if there was one near me I would probably join just to have access to good cardio equipment to use occasionally.

I know several members of my crossfit gym that also have memberships at PF just so they have another alternative for cardio or general workouts if their available times doesn't meet the class or open gym schedule at crossfit. For $10 a month, they think it is more than worth it.

My problem with PF is that they don’t have barbells other than smith machines. So, I will never join their gym for that reason. But, they’re cheap, and it’s perfectly fine for exercising regularly. For guys like me who like to do olympic lifting, powerlifting and strongman type workouts it’s just not for me.

I went once and they were looking at me funny when I refused the donuts at the front desk

I started with pf, if you are rooky it would be good for you. As for me, it gives me a good start into a sport and for now, I`ve riched nice results.
But it wasn`t easy, thnx my friends from https://essay4me.org/ for their help with all my essay and coursework while I was improving myself.

I have a PF membership. It works for me but I'm not trying to get jacked. I'm just there to do some cardio and do a little bit of weight work. It's worth $10 a month for that. I will also say that the "lunk alarm" is completely idiotic. I've never set it off but I do roll my eyes every time I hear it. God forbid someone actually push their own limits and make some noise.
