Anyone else starting off 2019 with a dry January?

This will be the first time in a long time I’ve gone a month without drinking. Got too drunk the last time a drank, and made it a bad experience for everyone at a party. Told myself I was gonna lay off the booze for a while. I started just before Christmas, and I plan on going through the end of January (may go longer with how good I’ve been feeling). It’s my birthday this month, so it will be put to the test. I really feel like it will make it that much easier to hit all of my fitness goals though. I know I’m already sleeping better. Anyone else partaking in a dry January? Just looking for advice and any extra motivation.

I think I’ve already decided on giving up this website for lent.

I’m cutting way back. I had a terrible drinking weekend and went into detox last night. It was like the flu. So not dry but damn near.

I quit drinking in 2001! I’ve been pretty productive ever since.

I am.
I gained 8 lbs over the holidays and dropping beer is the easiest way to clean up a few calories.
I’ll also clean up my diet as a whole, but it’s been awhile since I’ve went a whole month without a beer. I like beer. It was hard not sipping on a beer while cooking and watching football this weekend.

Yeah. Beer is hard for me to give up. It’s recommended to avoid all alcohol correct? Wonder if switching to wine or liquor would be any better.

Have not had a drink since Friday
I’m going sober until my PT test at the end of February
Not even gonna drink on my bday or the three day weekend coming up

I love beer as well, so all of this playoff football without it has been weird. It hasn’t really been hard though. I actually really enjoyed being DD for some friends the other night after an engagement party. I still enjoyed myself.

I quit drinking on October 7th. I plan on staying sober through January and beyond. The first 2 or 3 weeks were hard after being in a habit of drinking every weekend for basically 25 years.
I can't tell you how much better I feel physically and mentally. I dropped 10 lbs in first couple of weeks without adding additional workouts or changing diet.
Now. I'm focused on overall health and the further you distance yourself from alcohol the more you realize how unhealthy it is and how easily you can become addicted.

I've been sober for 10 months now and couldn't feel more better about myself. I absolutely LOVE being sober.
For those interested and enjoy reading, The Naked Mind will change your entire outlook on alcohol. Instead of going out and thinking, ah man, why can't I drink? I think, why are these people drinking? Life is so much better sober.

I'm starting today. I always do a month or two with no alcohol as soon as football is over for my team. I've been drinking almost every night for a month or two so this is well needed.

Did dry January 2018 and in it now. I really enjoy it. I am really questioning why I drink. Waking up 100% Saturday and Sunday is an amazing feeling.

I did about 6 months dry last year. Just like you said after a couple weeks it became a lot easier. Felt great and clear minded. A lot more productive and had tons of extra time to do things.

Me. But my last cocktail was 7/20/2016

Come to think of it, I haven't had any alcohol yet this year.
The motivation has to come from within. You just have to tell yourself that you are better than it and you don't need it to have a good time.
Things that help are being around others that don't drink.
Since, this is part of a fitness board, I would encourage you to do workouts in the mornings. By doing this, you'll find yourself not wanting that drink the night before.
Also, mornings are very underrated. Seeing a peaceful sunrise on a morning jog gives me more of a high than any glass of alcohol could ever provide.

We should be sober buddies. It’s hard for me to find friends that get sobriety but man, it’s awesome. Congrats to you!

This. I had nearly forgotten how productive I was in 2014 when I went 6 months sober. I cut way back and now in sober mode again.

how is it going for everyone
not a drink since the 4th.
I've actually gained a couple pounds but its from a direct result of my training getting better with no booze.
I feel light on my feet and aware and starting to look leaner.
Also been able to add an extra day of training in bc I'm not dragging arse on a weekend from drinking beers

No drink for me since Dec. 22. Sunday January 20 will make day 30 for me. That is right at a month. It pains me to say this, but I may have to drink a couple of beers on Sunday due to the fact that I will be in the Superdome to watch the Saints kick some arse. After that I'll probably go another couple weeks without a drink.
