Scramble Strategy

Played in a corporate scramble this afternoon. I was slinging darts but could not get a putt to fall.
I was the 2nd best player on our team, and was having an exceptional day off the tee. But me and our ringer kept putting it in the same place. And then we would spray it all over the green. And not get a putt to fall.
Any of you baws play a system in a scramble? What’s your recipe for going low in these events?

Sweet! I’m no scramble expert but here are some things we do.
Definitely stick to a playing order as far as order of play for 1-4 is something we normally do. Just to stay consistent and keep a rhythm.
Strategies on Par 5s - with first person laying up on the 2nd shot so everyone else can go at the green in two.
Definitely have to be putting well or you have to hit it closer proximity wise. Always nice to have someone who’s lights out from long range.
Have a short memory and try to get the birdie train going. Overcome pars with playing aggressive on Par 5s and short 4s.
We shot -16 in the last scramble we played. Birdied 12 holes. Had 2 eagles on 5s. And 4 pars.

I’m generally the best player in groups I play with.
Driver, I go first. I tend to hit it better if I’m the lead off the tee.
Irons and putter I go last mostly. I’m a streaky putter, so that can change up if I’m having a cold day.

In a scramble…if you’re not cheating and pencil whipping that scorecard then you don’t have a chance in hell.

That’s a great score.
Did some group post 51?

Scrambles are frustrating without at least one guy putting really well. You have to make a lot of 8-12 footers to do anything. That distance is under 25% make for amateurs, so someone needs to be on.
This doesn't really answer the strategy question. Putt better I guess

Not missing putts

Pay the 100 bucks to tee off on the par 5 from 100 yards out.

We actually won this tournament. It was blind draw on teams. No mulligans. And won it by two shots.

A team actually turned in a 48 at the Jeff Taylor tournament at Carter Plantation last month. What a joke

If by some chance my team legit shot sub 55, I’d be too embarrassed to turn it in.

Played in some Environmental Group scramble at Pelican a few months back, we carded a legit 54. One guy in the group was a plus golfer who hit it a mile. We stuck to an order after the first 3 holes. The plus guy teed off last so if any of the other 3 hit a decent tee shot he would rip it...most times hitting the fairway leaving us a wedge in. Everywhere else until the green the two weakest players went 1,2, I'd hit, then the best player. On the green I went last since my putter was hot.

Usually, I like to have the first two people just get something in the fairway or at least in play then the last two try to improve.
Into the green, I don't think it matters all that much so long the person hitting last isn't one to get easily rattled.
On the green I think the best putter should go third. By that point he's had at least one good read on it.

Yes! Cheat like a MF'er, otherwise you'll never win.

Buy lots of mulligans.
Just played the LSU Alumni Scholarship Tournament here in Orlando. Par max, four man scramble. Winning score was -20, 2nd -19, and 2 at -18. We finished at -16.

Last one I played in I brought two guys that were 1 indexes and another guy that is a 16 but hits his driver a mile. It was from the white tees at my home course, I went first and hit a safe ball then the good guys went and the bomber went last.
We had an insane day and 1 putted all but 2 greens, and also chipped in from 80 out on a par 4. On one of the par 5s they let you shoot a potato gun and wherever that landed you started the hole from, so we made a 2 on that for double eagle.
Shot 51 and came in 3rd, the winner turned in a 47

This is always the best club in the bag for scramble winners:

The chances you hit 1/4 over 4 chances is 69%…
No joke, factor the higher probability to the number of chances to get your probability of that outcome.
.75^4 = .31 chance of failure, or 69% chance of success.
