Rules question

Why can players move twigs and little shite like that when they are in the trees but Bryson walking into his ball is a penalty? I don’t see why players would bother to move these impendimates if they didn’t think it was somehow beneficial for them to do so

So the rule boils down to:
Allowed: Remove loose stuff lying on the ground.
Not allowed: Alter or flatten growing vegetation or the ground to make the shot easier.

Tiger had a large boulder moved by the spectators…

Basically the rule is you can move stuff that is not attached to the the ground as long as it doesn’t move your ball but you can’t move stuff that is growing or attached to the ground

The rules state that twigs, leaves and little shite ( loose impediments) are temporary, incidental clutter that is unattached to the ground and you are essentially clearing an item thst normally wouldn't be there. Conversely, things like grass, bushes, trees or vines that are attached or growing are considered permanent integral components of the golf course and can not be broken or moved to improve your stance, lie or swing.

Serious question: Does this get called on Justin Rose? Or Rory?

One answer might be, no because they wouldn’t do it.

Well that may or may not be true. But it’s not an answer to the question.

Like I said earlier, there are a lot of bad rules in golf like the O.B. rule.
But as long as everyone plays by the same rules as they are written, it's pretty cut and dry.

The fatal flaw in your premise. We watch guys cheat all the time. The dude that just won the last major did it in the wide arse open

Tiger called a rules official who agreed with him that the boulder was indeed a rock, or loose impediment. The rules official told him he could move it if it was possible, so Tiger got a bunch of guys in the crowd to push it out of the way.

I know this, the rules official was wrong, loose impediment when more than one person has to move it
One of many Tiger “rules”

It was a several hundred pound rock.
I think it was ridiculous to have multiple people help move it.
What if a group without much of a gallery has a similar situation?

How is out of bounds a bad rule?

Depends on the player. Eldrick the cheat, moved a giant boulder with 5 people helping do it and everyone thought it was great. He got away with numerous cheating scenarios.

My $.02 is that the problem wasn't where he stepped, but how he stepped. He didn't pick his feet up and step straight down. As he stepped, he shoved the weeds over to the side seemingly intentionally to lay the grass over.

Imagine what the golf course would look like if everyone was allowed to remove branches, bushes and other plants that were in the way of their swing.
