The other day I was hacking it up like usually and decided to stop playing the blues and play the whites. Immediately played better. Was also suddenly driving further and with more confidence because I didn’t have to subconsciously think about hitting it further.
Could have actually played blues fine if I was driving like I did from whites.

Don’t ever be concerned about what other people think about what tees you play from. Golf is a hobby that’s supposed to be fun. And if playing up a set or two makes it more fun and gives you more confidence, go for it.

What you said.

I’m looking to have fun when I play and I don’t play for money, so I’m comfortable with whites or blues depending on the day.

When I was in the Golf Business, always wanted to do away with Tee Markers, and let people play from where they wanted to without the stigma of what color they were playing.

When you consider most pros are hitting mid to short irons into most par 4s, you should be playing a distance that allows you to do the same.

Exactly. There is no reason amateurs should be hitting 5 iron or longer into a par 4 after you stripe a drive. Playing up is far more enjoyable.

I’ve been to a couple of courses like that. Just need a marker somewhere to tell you what the tee box is rated. Tee markers are for tournaments. Every other round should be for enjoyment.

Had a friend who was a high handicapper, but still had really good length off the tee. He went to a teacher who recommended he play the farthest forward tees so that he could learn to score. Once he was under 80, then move back to the next set of tees and so on.

As long as you can "check your ego at the door" it's pretty effective. He learned how to play his scoring shots and made short game improvements that would have taken much longer had he stuck with the Blues or Blacks. I guess it falls into the philosophy of learning the game from the green back, I can see it being more fun as well, not having to hit 160-180 yard approach shots on every par 4.

The club where I worked, after a redesign, flipped the tee marker colors. Gold became the forward tees, blue the senior, white the member tees, and red the championship markers.

I can’t remember where I read it, but saw somewhere that you take the distance you hit 5 iron x 36 and play from the tees closest to that number.

For example, if you hit 5 iron 180, 180 x 36 = 6,480. Play the tees closest to that yardage.

I play with younger guys mostly, so play further back than I should. I really get tired of hitting woods and long irons into greens. Makes for a less than enjoyable round.

Half the guys in my senior group should move up to the forward tees. Sad to see therm miserable and complaining through a horrible round of golf because they are too proud to move up to a place where they can actually get some pars.

I moved up.

I’m not that good.

It helps, but only if I chip and putt well.

The course I play most often is only about 6650 from the tips and the whites are usually around 6300. I mix it up depending on conditions. I've played the senior tees a few times and it was much easier; driver is rarely needed from those tees and the par 5's are much shorter.

When I go somewhere new I pick the tees that play closest to 6400 yards, sometimes they are perfect for an enjoyable round sometimes its not but if I'm playing golf then I'm happy.

This. One day I randomly got paired with three seniors. Decided to play from their tees out of convenience. One of the best rounds in my life and definitely most GIR in a round. As someone already said - check your egos at the door.

These days it is extremely rare to see a pro hitting more than a 9i on a par4. They seem to only hit mid irons into shorter par 5s.
